This data set contains spectral observations of 37 comets obtained with the Short-wavelength prime (SWP) spectrograph on the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) satellite. Both low dispersion data from 1150-1975 A and high dispersion data from 1145-1930A (with partial coverage from 1930-2198A) are included.

This is a dataset that compiles the data from various papers, which reported observations of brightness changes in comets that allowed to produce the comet lightcurves. Specifically, the data were based on the references in the paper by Samarasinha et al. (2004), i.e. they are those lightcurves, which were used to find out the rotational properties of the comet nuclei (periods, rotation vector coordinates, spin mode, etc.) reported by Samarasinha et al. (2004).

The data set consists of raw and reduced ground-based images of comet 9P/Tempel 1 in the broadband R and narrowband HB filters taken at the Kitt Peak 2.1m telescope from February to June 2005 prior to the Deep Impact encounter.

The database contains 2653 measurements of linear and circular polarization for 65 comets since 1940. The narrow-band and broad-band measurements within the spectral region 0.3-3.5 micron are presented. The ranges of phase angles, helio- and geocentric distances of comets are 0.4-122 deg, 0.6-4.8 AU and 0.03-4.9 AU, respectively. We have compiled 64 references to the published papers and some unpublished sources. The data are presented in a tabular format (ASCII code). The database can be used as the observational basis for detailed theoretical modeling, interpretation of the phase-angle and spectral dependence of polarization, classification of comets, and for selecting future space-mission targets.
