Garbage routes for the City of Austin

Downtown Austin Recycling, Trash & Litter-Control Services: To reduce truck traffic downtown and help Austin achieve its Zero Waste goals, Austin Resource Recovery manages a commercial trash and recycling contract for businesses located in the Downtown Austin Recycling and Trash Service District (see map). Every night, Austin Resource Recovery sweeps and cleans designated streets and alleys in the Downtown Recycling and Trash Service District, and trash is collected from receptacles along Sixth Street and Congress Avenue. Austin Resource Recovery also manages a commercial trash and recycling Dumpster contract, required by Austin City Council Ordinance 20051020-063 for businesses located in the Downtown Austin Recycling and Trash Service District. Businesses and residents in this service district have access to convenient Single Stream recycling Dumpsters in their alleys. These customers can place all of the following materials in any alley recycling Dumpster, with no sorting required.

In 2011, Austin’s City Council adopted a Zero Waste Goal that challenges our city to divert 90% of material away from the landfill by 2040. Our work at Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) revolves around meeting this goal, while providing necessary services to keep our community clean.

Recycle Collection Routes- There are currently 190 recycle collection routes. Recycle collection is every other week pickup monday thru friday represented as either A or B week pickup. The holes inside the recycle collection route boundaries represent no service areas for ARR.

Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) collects and processes HHW through the HHW Facility at the Recycle and Reuse Drop-Off Center (RRDOC) and through a limited door-to-door collection program.

Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) collaborates with the Office of Sustainability and other departments on initiatives that promote sustainability in the community and within City government.
