New Orleans National Register Historic Districts and proposed districts
A National Register historic district is a historic district that is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register is our country�۪s official list of historic properties and resources worthy of preservation. It includes individual buildings, structures, sites, and objects as well as historic districts that are considered to be significant in American history, architecture, engineering, archaeology, and culture. This dataset is the result of collaboration between the Louisiana State Historic Preservation Office, FEMA and the City of New Orleans ITI-GIS. (1) Listed districts only, (2) proposed districts or extensions which have not been listed, (0) significant historic area.Please note that these historic districts are not the same as Local Historic Districts, which have completely different criteria and laws governing permitting.

Historic Zoning Districts for the City of New Orleans. This data is archived to show the status of zoning for parcels previous to changes made in August of 2012. Zoning regulates land use to promote smart growth and preserve the quality of life in communities. Permitted Use are allowed by right, subject to compliance with appropriate standards. Conditional Use require City Planning Commission review with a recommendation forwarded to the City Council for final action.

Following the 2020 Census, the New Orleans City Council passed ordinance MCS 28968 redistricting the City of New Orleans effective on the second Monday in January 2026. These static files can be used leading up to the change of official council districts on January 12, 2026. Included are a file geodatabase and independent shapefiles.

This dataset includes buildings and districts in Chicago which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) or designated as National Historic Landmarks (NHL). The NRHP is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation; NHLs are nationally significant historic places designated by the Secretary of the Interior because they possess exceptional value or quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States. The NRHP and NHL programs are federally-established and are administered by the National Park Service (www.nps/gov/nr) and the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA, www.illinoishistory.gov/). This dataset is provided by the City of Chicago based on NRHP and NHL nominations provided by IHPA. To view or use this KMZ file, compression software, such as 7-Zip, and special GIS software, such as Google Earth, are required. These ESRI shape files are of National Park Service tract and boundary data that was created by the Land Resources Division. Tracts are numbered and created by the regional cartographic staff at the Land Resources Program Centers and are associated to the Land Status Maps. This data should be used to display properties that NPS owns and properties that NPS may have some type of interest such as scenic easements or right of ways.
