It covers the three low coral islands--Peale, Wake, and Wilkes--that make up the island, and extends onto the slopes of its volcanic pedestal. It is referenced to a vertical tidal datum of Mean High Water (MHW) and was compiled from various data sources including: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), formerly the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC); the U.S. National Ocean Service (NOS), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and other federal, state, and local government agencies, academic institutions, and private companies.
