NTRRP Regions
The National Transportation Response and Recovery Program (NTRRP) Regions dataset is as of February 22, 2019 from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The USDOT Regions dataset contains the designated regions for each Operating Administration (OA) within the US Department of Transportation (USDOT). Included in the attribute table for each OA are the region name, region number, and office location, where applicable. There are no regions for the entirety of the USDOT.

This dataset depicts NHTSA's Regional Operations and Program Delivery Office regional boundaries. It identifies which states and territories are associated with each region. NHTSA's regions help States use data to identify their highway safety challenges, evaluate safety programs and activities, and provide technical assistance to State program managers to support the implementation of impactful behavioral highway safety programs.

The National Transit Map - Agencies dataset was compiled on September 09, 2024 from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The National Transit Map (NTM) is a nationwide catalog of fixed-guideway and fixed-route transit service in America. It is compiled using General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) Schedule data. The GTFS Schedule documentation is available at, https://gtfs.org/schedule/. The NTM Agencies dataset represents the physical addresses of participating transit agencies. Regarding data coverage and licenses, starting in Report Year 2023, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has required National Transit Database (NTD) Reporters to submit General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data. Reporters will submit GTFS during their reporting period, which is determined by their fiscal year end date. All GTFS data submitted to the NTD will enter the public domain. Prior to the GTFS requirement, transit agencies voluntarily participated in the NTM and granted the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 United States (CC-BY-3.0) license. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Regions dataset was created on October 12, 2022 from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has 10 different regions across the United States. The regions cover all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and territories. Staff within the FTA regions provide support in cities/regions with greater transit activities. All these officials develop and manage grants. FTA also overseas safety measures.

The NARN Rail Lines dataset is a database that provides ownership, trackage rights, type, passenger, STRACNET, and geographic reference for North America's railway system at 1:24,000 or better within the United States. The data set covers all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Mexico, and Canada.

The National Parks dataset is frequently updated by the National Park Service (NPS) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). This dataset depicts National Park Service boundary data that was created by the Land Resources Division. NPS Director's Order #25 states: "Land status maps will be prepared to identify the ownership of the lands within the authorized boundaries of the park unit. These maps, showing ownership and acreage, are the 'official record' of the acreage of Federal and non-federal lands within the park boundaries. While these maps are the official record of the lands and acreage within the unit's authorized boundaries, they are not of survey quality and not intended to be used for survey purposes." The Railroad Bridges dataset was compiled on October 14, 2022 from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). A railroad bridge is defined as “Railroad bridge means any structure with a deck, regardless of length, which supports one or more railroad tracks, or any other undergrade structure with an individual span length of 10 feet or more located at such a depth that it is affected by live loads.” based on the Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR Part 237). The FRA does not have a mandate to inspect railroad bridges: these inspections are required by the owner of the track. The FRA will use this railroad bridge dataset to determine the number of bridges per railroad, state, etc. and will assist in determining priority field activities.

The Port Statistical Areas dataset was updated on June 05, 2025 from the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). USACE works with port authorities from across the United States to develop the statistical port boundaries through an iterative and collaborative process. Port boundary information is prepared by USACE to increase transparency on public waterborne commerce statistic reporting, as well as to modernize how the data type is stored, analyzed, and reported. A Port Statistical Area (PSA) is a region with formally justified shared economic interests and collective reliance on infrastructure related to waterborne movements of commodities that is formally recognized by legislative enactments of state, county, or city governments. PSAs generally contain groups of county legislation for the sole purpose of statistical reporting. Through GIS mapping, legislative boundaries, and stakeholder collaboration, PSAs often serve as the primary unit for aggregating and reporting commerce statistics for broader geographical areas. Per Engineering Regulation 1130-2-520, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Navigation Data Center is responsible to collect, compile, publish, and disseminate waterborne commerce statistics. This task has subsequently been charged to the Waterborne Commerce Statistics Center to perform. Performance of this work is in accordance with the Rivers and Harbors Appropriation Act of 1922. Included in this work is the definition of a port area. A port area is defined in Engineering Pamphlet 1130-2-520 as: (1) Port limits defined by legislative enactments of state, county, or city governments. (2) The corporate limits of a municipality. The USACE enterprise-wide port and port statistical area feature classes per EP 1130-2-520 are organized in SDSFIE 4.0.2 format. The National Transit Map - Routes dataset was compiled on March 19, 2025 from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The National Transit Map (NTM) is a nationwide catalog of fixed-guideway and fixed-route transit service in America. It is compiled using General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) Schedule data. The NTM Routes dataset shows transit routes, which is a group of trips that are displayed to riders as a single service. To display the route alignment and trips for each route, this dataset combines the following GTFS files: routes.txt, trips.txt, and shapes.txt. The GTFS Schedule documentation is available at, https://gtfs.org/schedule/. To improve the spatial accuracy of the NTM Routes, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) adjusts transit routes using context from the submitted GTFS source data and/or from other publicly available information about the transit service. The Ports and Port Statistical Areas dataset is periodically updated by the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). Per Engineering Regulation 1130-2-520, USACE’s NDC and WCSC are responsible for collecting, compiling, printing, and distributing all domestic waterborne commerce statistics for which the USACE has responsibility. Per a 1998 Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memorandum, the WCSC inherited the requirement to include foreign waterborne commerce formally executed by the U.S. Census Bureau. Performance of this work is in accordance with the Rivers and Harbors Appropriation Act of 1922 (33 USC 555). Engineering Regulation 1130-2-520 defines a port as: (1) Port limits defined by legislative enactments of state, county, or city governments. (2) The corporate limits of a municipality.
