NYTD Reviewer Responsibilities
On behalf of the Children’s Bureau, JBS International, Inc.'s Child Welfare Compliance Reviews Team (CWCRT) maintains a national pool of National Youth in Transition Database (NYTD) Reviewers to support the Children’s Bureau in administering the federal NYTD Reviews. NYTD Reviewers provide unique expertise as young people with experience in the child welfare system as they participate in pre-onsite phase planning calls, onsite review activities, and entrance and exit conferences. The following are general responsibilities of NYTD Reviewers participating in a NYTD Review: Experienced NYTD Reviewers may be promoted to the role of Senior NYTD Reviewer. This advanced role provides additional peer-to-peer support to NYTD Reviewers on how to successfully perform NYTD Review activities. Participation in the CFSRs requires a significant commitment of time and effort. JBS recruits reviewers by taking referrals from state and federal staff; contract staff; and current CFSR reviewers, quality assurance specialists, and note-taking specialists (collectively referred to as “agile staff”). Upon receipt of applications, the Child Welfare Reviews Project reviews and maintains information on candidates’ qualifications and identifies candidates to participate in CFSR reviewer trainings. Once trained, these individuals become eligible to participate as CFSR reviewers. Preference is given to individuals who are experienced in applying the Onsite Review Instrument and Instructions, who demonstrate fluency in Spanish, and/or have lived experience within the child welfare system or within indigenous or tribal social services. The Child Welfare Reviews Project conducts CFSR reviewer trainings periodically.
