Illumination device for a vehicle comprises a first lamp module (30) and a second lamp module (40), each having a number of light-emitting diodes (31, 41). The second lamp module surrounds the first lamp module. The lamp modules are staggered in relation to each other and are separately fixed so that they can be individually replaced. Preferred Features: The second lamp module is optically set back behind the first lamp module.

The process involves detecting an individual in a road. The individual in the scene of the road is localized. A mask corresponding to dimension and position of the individual is created on a display. A cast shadow (OP) is created around the individual by lighting the road through the display. A zone of the scene of road situated above a gap is lighted. An independent claim is also included for a road lighting headlight of a vehicle.

The light has a light body (5) and a bearer arm (2) that carries the body on one end and is connected to a base part (8) at the other. The bearer arm has a continuous series of elements (3) joined together by joining linkages (4) and at least one flexible element extending over the linkage at the base and essentially arranged within the element to absorb at least some of the torque acting on the joining linkage at the base when the light is used.

A lighting device (1; 101; 201; 301) for lighting objects is described, which comprises a printed circuit board (2) on which at least one LED light source (2) is mounted coupled to a primary optical assembly (3) for transmission and amplification of the light emitted by the light source, a containing body (5) enclosing the circuit board (2), and a secondary optical assembly (6) mounted on the containing body (5) at a suitable distance from the primary optical assembly (3) to generate at least one light beam leaving said lighting device.

A lamp (10) includes an optics module (12) and an electronics module (14, 60, 70). The optics module (10) includes a plurality of LEDs (76) arranged on a printed circuit board (18) and having a plurality of input leads, and a heat sink (22) having a conduit (40) for the input leads. The plurality of LEDs (16) thermally communicate with the heat sink (22). The electronics module (14, 60, 70) is adapted to power the plurality of LEDs (16) through the input leads. The electronics module (14, 60, 70) has a first end (52) adapted to rigidly connect with the heat sink (22), and a selected electrical connector (50, 62, 72) arranged on a second end for receiving electrical power. The electronics module (14, 60, 70) further houses circuitry (80) arranged therewithin for adapting the received electrical power (82) to drive the LEDs (16).

A reflector lamp is described which consist essentially of a light source, in particular in the form of a high-pressure gas discharge lamp (HID [high intensity discharge] lamp or UHP [ultra high performance] lamp), as well as a main or secondary reflector ( 12 ), and a primary reflector ( 25 ) by means of which light from the light source ( 22 ) can be reflected through the light source ( 22 ) onto the main reflector ( 12 ). The primary reflector ( 25 ) is arranged such that those regions of the main reflector ( 12 ) are obscured which are optically inactivated regions, for example because of a lead-through and/or a fastening device for the lamp, which have no reflection properties, or which have reflection properties that adversely affect the radiation characteristic of the reflector lamp. The reflector lamp is particularly suitable for projection applications because of its high luminous efficacy. Furthermore, a substantially automated and accordingly cost-effective assembly of the lamp is possible.

A lighting device (30) having a housing (12) which includes a lamp means, a battery housing to receive at least one battery and a switch means to open and close a circuit between said lamp means and terminals of said at least one battery when located in said housing. Said lighting device includes a lanyard (110, 112) attached to said housing (12) characterised by said lanyard having a proximal end attached to said housing (12) and a distal end, whereby said distal end or a portion of said lanyard (110, 112) is adapted to be releasably attached to said housing (12).

An illuminating system, device, and method are provided to illuminate an in-flight refueling operation involving a first aircraft, serving as a tanker aircraft and carrying the illuminating system of the present invention, and a second aircraft, entering an in-flight refueling position relative to the first aircraft. The system, device, and method of the present invention provide eye-safe, covert illumination suitable for illuminating the in-flight refueling position such that the second aircraft is illuminated upon entering the in-flight refueling position.

The first lamp (3) is a gas discharge lamp, the second (4) is incandescent. Their end caps are held and connected in sockets (1, 15), forming a unit (16) which can be turned about an axis. The unit is released by unlocking, allowing it to be rotated by a pre-tensioned torsion spring (8). The spring is connected between the pivoting unit and a fixed part of the lamp body.
