The Local Area Unemployment Statistics program estimates labor force statistics (labor force, employed, unemployment, unemployment rate) for New York State civilian labor force aged 16 and up. Seasonally adjusted estimates are provided for New York State, New York City, Balance of State.

Unemployment rate is the number of unemployed persons as a percent of the labor force. The Bureau of Labor Statistics produces industry estimates of nonfarm payroll employment as part of the Current Population Survey. Employment data are seasonally adjusted to remove the effects of normal seasonal variation.

Index of Washington State and labor market areas, 1990-2022 Each month, economists estimate monthly job gains and losses based on the survey of employers (CES). Then, at the end of each quarter, economists revise the estimates based on actual numbers from employer tax records (QCEW).
