This data package aims to pilot an approach for providing usable data for analyses related to drought planning and management for urban water suppliers--ultimately contributing to improvements in communication around drought. This project was convened by the California Water Data Consortium in partnership with the Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the State Water Resources and Control Board (SWB) and is one of two use cases of this working group that aim to improve data submitted by urban water suppliers in terms of accessibility and useability. The datasets from DWR and the SWB are compiled in a standard format to allow interested parties to synthesize and analyze these data into a cohesive message. This package includes a data management plan describing its development and maintenance. All code related to preparing this data package can be found on [GitHub](https://github.com/FlowWest/urban-water-drought-data). Please note that the "org_id" (DWR's Organization ID) and the "pwsid" (SWB's Public Water System ID) can be used to connect to the various data tables in this package. We acknowledge that data quality issues may exist. Making these data available in a usable format will help identify and address data quality issues. We plan to iteratively update this data package to incorporate new data and to update existing data with quality fixes. This DWR Open Data Publication includes the necessary reporting materials to complete the 2025 Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP). Urban Water Management Plans (UWMPs) are prepared by urban water suppliers every five years. These plans support the suppliers’ long-term resource planning to ensure that adequate water supplies are available to meet existing and future water needs. The publicly available PDF files include the Final 2025 UWMP Guidebook and Appendices A through P. The requirements for UWMPs are found in two sections of California Water Code, §10610-10656 and §10608. Every urban water supplier that either provides over 3,000 acre-feet of water annually, or serves more than 3,000 urban connections is required to submit an UWMP. This dataset is a compilation of the data export tables available on [WUEdata](https://wuedata.water.ca.gov/) for the 2020 Urban Water Management Plans (UWMPs). * "2020_UWMP_Tables.xlsx" contains each of the 99 tables as a separate workbook (Last Updated 2024) * The worksheets for each table are also individually stored separately as TSV files in "2020_UWMP_TSV_Export.zip" (Last Updated 2023) * Column definitions, data types, and table locations are included in "2020_Data_Dictionary.xlsx" * Shortened versions of the table names are used in the XLSX worksheet names and TSV filenames; "Table_Name_Key.xlsx" links the shortened names and original names * For reference, the 2020 UWMP Guidebook that was provided to water suppliers is included in this dataset
