This layer shows sites currently regulated by EPA Tasmania under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA). Active legal instruments containing EPA Tasmania requirements relating to the premises are provided. These documents include Permit Conditions Environmental (PCEs), Environment Protection Notices (EPNs), Site Management Notices (SMNs), Remediation Notices (RNs), Investigation Notices (INs) and Environmental Licences (ELs). Permits issued by planning authorities are not shown but may be obtained by contacting the relevant Council. Permits issued under previous legislation are only displayed (as PCEs) when they have not been subsequently varied by an EPN. The spatial location for each site is represented by a single point, which has been selected to best represent the location of the regulated activity. Because of the broad and sometimes fragmented nature of some activities, the displayed location will not show the full extent of the activity. Environmental protection agreements allow scope for businesses to manage their environmental performance in partnership with the EPA rather than the EPA acting solely as enforcer.

To improve public health and the environment, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) collects information about facilities, sites, or places subject to environmental regulation or of environmental interest. Through the Geospatial Data Download Service, the public is now able to download the EPA Geodata shapefile containing facility and site information from EPA's national program systems. The file is Internet accessible from the Envirofacts Web site (https://www.epa.gov/enviro). The data may be used with geospatial mapping applications. (Note: The shapefile omits facilities without latitude/longitude coordinates.) The EPA Geospatial Data contains the name, location (latitude/longitude), and EPA program information about specific facilities and sites. In addition, the file contains a Uniform Resource Locator (URL), which allows mapping applications to present an option to users to access additional EPA data resources on a specific facility or site.

This web feature service contains location and facility identification information from EPA's Facility Registry Service (FRS) for the subset of facilities that link to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Chemical Substance Inventory System. Section 8 (b) of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) requires EPA to compile, keep current and publish a list of each chemical substance that is manufactured or processed, including imports, in the United States for uses under TSCA. Also called the "TSCA Inventory" or simply "the Inventory," it plays a central role in the regulation of most industrial chemicals in the United States. FRS identifies and geospatially locates facilities, sites or places subject to environmental regulations or of environmental interest. Using vigorous verification and data management procedures, FRS integrates facility data from EPA's national program systems, other federal agencies, and State and tribal master facility records and provides EPA with a centrally managed, single source of comprehensive and authoritative information on facilities. This data set contains the subset of FRS integrated facilities that link to TSCA facilities once the TSCA data has been integrated into the FRS database. This asset includes the EPA Federal Agency Hazardous Waste Compliance Docket (Docket), which is required by Section 120(c) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA). The Docket contains information reported to EPA by federal facilities that manage hazardous waste or from which hazardous substances, pollutants or contaminants have been or may be released. The Docket serves three major purposes: 1. To identify all federal facilities that must be evaluated through the site assessment process to determine whether they pose a risk to human health and the environment sufficient to warrant inclusion on the National Priorities List (NPL); 2. To compile and maintain the information submitted to EPA on such facilities under the provisions listed in section 120(c) of CERCLA; and 3. To provide a mechanism to make the information available to the public. The docket includes facilities which have provided information to EPA through documents such as reports under a Federal agency environmental restoration program, regardless of the absence of section 103 reporting. E-Docket is an internal business management tool that will improve the tracking and record keeping of information about facilities that have been identified as potential Docket sites. The functionality of the system is basic record tracking, and it will contain a list of draft proposed facilities which can be sorted based on Agency ownership, region, or status (Draft Proposed, Proposed, Added, or Not Added). The information compiled in the tool is publicly available. It collects regional site-specific planning targets for program measures. This data is entered by the regions and used by HQ to estimate and target program accomplishments.
