Franklin Voyage FR 07/1997 HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data

This record contains data collected at 16 stations on the Franklin cruise FR07/07 in an area between the mouth of the Sepik River, Papua New Guinea and the equator. The data were collected to determine the bio-optical characteristics of this region and the effect of the Sepik River outflow on such data. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (a/p) and detrital or non-algal (a/d) components of the water column. A BSI (Biospherical Instruments) six channel radiometer was also deployed during this voyage.

Laurina P HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data September 1997 - April 1998

This record contains data collected on the FV Laurina P on four voyages between September 1997 and April 1998, along the NSW coast between Byron Bay and Wapengo. A total of 56 samples were collected. Franklin Voyage FR 05/95 Chlorophyll a Data

This record contains data collected from 9 stations on the Franklin cruise FR05/95. The data were collected to determine the chlorophyll a concentration in waters where ther had been a recent mass mortality of pilchards. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Chlorophyll a (HPLC)concentration was the only parameter measured.

This record contains data collected on the charter vessel Kenomie Spirit between the 6th and 9th February 2008 in the Fitzroy River Estuary. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. The data was used primarily to validate ocean colour sensors MERIS, MODIS and SeaWIFs. Samples CLW deployed instruments RAMSES, ac-9, and Hydroscat.

Samples were collected and analysed for pigments, and dissolved and particulate absorption coefficients.

Southern Surveyor Voyage SS 01/99 HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data

This record contains data collected at 7 stations on the Southern Surveyor cruise SS 01/99. Water samples were collected from an area of the Southern Ocean near MacQuarie Island to determine the bio-optical properties of water masses in these regions. The data can be used for Ocean Colour and CDOM sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (a/p) and detrital or non-algal (a/d) components of the water column. In addition to the station samples, 47 water samples were collected from the outflow of the underway fluorometer and analysed for the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments only.

The data was used primarily to validate ocean colour sensors MERIS, MODIS and SeaWIFs and the SST sensor AATSR. Samples were collected and analysed for pigments, total suspended solids (TSS) and dissolved and particulate absorption coefficients. CLW deployed instruments RAMSES, ac-9, Hydroscat and Hydrorad.

Southern Surveyor Voyage SS 02/99 HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data

This record contains data collected at 20 stations on the Southern Surveyor cruise SS02/99. Water samples were generally collected along the transect of around 142deg E from 40-55deg S to determinethe bio-optical charateristics of this region. The data can be used for Ocean Colour and CDOM sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (a/p) and detrital or non-algal (a/d) components of the water column. Much of this was a repeat of a transect sampled during March 1998 on the Aurora Australis cruise AA06/97. In addition to the station samples, 25 water samples were collected from the outflow of the underway fluorometer and analysed for chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments only.
