Aboriginal Cultural Heritage - Archaeological Surveys
This dataset represents the boundary of archaeological study areas as carried out for archaeological reporting within New South Wales. These study area boundaries have been captured from archaeological reports as catalogued within the Aboriginal Heritage Information Management System (AHIMS) under the National Parks and Wildlife Act, 1974.

These data provide locational and attribute information for places nominated to and included in the National Heritage List as determined by the Australian Government managed by the Department of the Environment, Wildlife Division. National Heritage List polygons with attribute information describing the place name, class (indigenous, natural, historic), and status. Places subject to confidentiality agreements are included in these data but the location is generalised to the bounding 250k mapsheet. The location data for place nominations that have been rejected, are ineligible, removed or destroyed are not included in the publicly downloadable spatial dataset.

The study was undertaken to identify items of the natural and cultural heritage with conservation significance because of their scenic or scientific value. It complements much of the work of The National Trust of Australia (NSW) and the listings in the Register maintained by the Australian Heritage Commission. The latter listings are directed towards identifying components of the national Estate. The focus of this study is mainly on the non-urban and open space environments in the Central Western Region with particular empasis on the features of the biophysical/natural heritage which contribute to scenic amenity and/or scientific value in those environments.; ; VIS_ID 860
