Narrabri Shire Council - Narrabri Flood Study Report
The Narrabri Flood Study constitutes the first stage of the Floodplain Risk Management process and assesses the risk of regional flooding from the Namoi River and local flooding from its tributaries, Mulgate Creek and Long Gully. It has been prepared by consultants WRM Water & Environment Pty Ltd and the Narrabri Shire Floodplain Risk Management Committee for Narrabri Shire Council.

Background Narromine Shire Council, through its Floodplain Management Committee is undertaking a Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan for the town in accordance with the New South Wales Government's flood prone lands policy and using procedures set out in the Floodplain Development Manual, 2005. The results of the Study and the draft Plan are presented in this report. The Floodplain Risk Management Study used the data from the recent Narromine Flood Study (LACE, 2006) to undertake a review of the physical, social and economic aspects of flooding on the Macquarie River floodplain at Narromine in order to prepare the draft Floodplain Risk Management Plan. The Floodplain Risk Management Study summarised present day flooding conditions as determined by the LACE, 2006 investigation and identified and assessed potential measures aimed at reducing the impact of flooding on both existing and future development. This process allowed the formulation of a draft Floodplain Risk Management Plan for Narromine having regard to both existing flooding problems and to potential future development. The Wollombi Flood Study Review and Model Upgrade completed in 2010 represents the initial stage in the floodplain management process and establishes the basis for the current floodplain risk management study. The objectives of the Wollombi Floodplain Risk Management Study are to:  Identify and assess measures for the mitigation of existing flood risk;  Identify and assess planning and development controls to reduce future flood risks; and  Present a recommended floodplain management plan that outlines the best possible measures to reduce flood damages in the Wollombi locality. This report documents the Floodplain Risk Management Study and presents a recommended Floodplain Risk Management Plan for the Wollombi Village.
