This publication provides information on teacher dismissals for either proven allegations of misconduct or failing an improvement program in NSW government schools. Data Notes The department acts quickly to investigate all allegations of teacher misconduct including allegations of sexual misconduct. Disciplinary or remedial action, which may include dismissal, is taken against a teacher where an investigation finds they have engaged in misconduct. The department has structured procedures for managing underperforming teachers. Teachers identified as experiencing difficulty with their teaching performance are managed in accordance with the procedures. If teachers haven't satisfactory met the requirements for their position, the matter is referred to a decision maker for possible remedial or disciplinary action, which may include dismissal. NTBE refers to the list of persons not to be employed by the department in any capacity. Refer to the individual publication for further information and policy context. Data Notes: Data is collected mid-year (census date: first Friday in August) from NSW government schools as per National Schools Statistics Collection (NSSC). From 2020, students in mainstream support classes are reported by their underlying grade of enrolment. Previously, students in support classes in mainstream schools were not included. Students in schools for specific purposes (SSPs) are not included. Students in distance education and Intensive English Centres are included with their appropriate grade levels. OC classes are not included in secondary students. IEC students are included. In most scholastic years there are a small number of students in atypical age groups. For students under 18 years, these have been included in the nearest band. This is indicated with an asterisk. As a result, the sum of each row may not equal the totals reported. Hire of school facilities revenue as included in the NSW Department of Education’s Annual Report, and as included in individual NSW government school Annual Reports. Data Notes: The NSW Department of Education encourages local communities to use school buildings, grounds, playing fields and facilities for appropriate purposes. The principal is responsible for approving the community use of school facilities following consultation with the school community. School facilities must only be used for activities consistent with the Values in NSW public schools policy. Shared use of school facilities should not be a financial burden to the school or the department. Schools may charge appropriate usage fees or, in some cases, provide free use of facilities. Refer to the Sharing of school facilities policy, and the General community use of school facilities page. For calendar years 2020, 2021, and 2022, fee waivers provided to external parties for hire of school facilities (due to Covid-19) were reported as hire of school facilities revenue.
