NSW Urban Vegetation Cover to Modified Mesh Block 2016
The NSW Urban Vegetation Cover to Modified Mesh Block 2016 provides both an area and percentage of vegetation for city blocks and infrastructure corridors in the Sydney Greater Metropolitan Area as of 2016. With this dataset, users can estimate tree canopy and vegetation cover in urban areas at many scales, such as mesh block, precinct, or local government area. Having current and accurate estimates of tree canopy and vegetation like this supports citizens and governments to reliably identify areas of tree canopy and confidently develop urban greening and heat island mitigation strategies and action. This dataset provides the user with information of high spatial accuracy. The dataset uses vegetation information derived from high resolution aerial photography combined with boundary and land use information from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Mesh Block polygon dataset augmented with road and railroad data from the NSW Digital Cadastral Database. The content was co-designed with state and local governments and developed using scientifically-rigorous methodologies. The extent of the dataset covers urban, major urban, peri-urban and other urban areas within the Sydney Greater Metropolitan. While the dataset provides wall to wall coverage of many councils, it does not include far outlying rural areas in local government areas with a largely rural component.

Greater Sydney Region Tree Canopy to Modified Mesh Block 2022
공공데이터포털
The Greater Sydney Region Tree Canopy to Modified Mesh Block 2022 provides both an area and percentage of canopy for city blocks and infrastructure corridors in the Greater Sydney Region as of 2022. With this dataset users can estimate tree canopy for many geographic areas (map scales), from larger local government area and precincts down to mesh block (ABS) and modified mesh block (smallest scale). The geographic extent of the 2022 canopy cover dataset includes the metropolitan urban area and metropolitan rural area of Greater Sydney.  Having current and accurate estimates of tree canopy supports citizens and governments to reliably identify areas of tree canopy and confidently develop urban greening and heat island mitigation strategies and actions. This dataset provides the user with information at a known spatial accuracy. The dataset uses vegetation information derived from 0.48m resolution ArborCarbon Pty Ltd height stratified vegetation cover data combined with boundary and land use information from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Mesh Block polygon dataset. The Greater Sydney Region Tree Canopy to Modified Mesh Block 2022 dataset uses the Modified Mesh Block boundaries from the ‘Greater Sydney Region Tree Canopy to Modified Mesh Block 2019’ dataset. Care should be taken when comparing canopy cover between datasets, especially in LGAs with a lower proportion of Metropolitan Urban Area, as some observed differences may be a result of variations in methodologies rather than actual change in canopy cover. In the dataset, “tree canopy” is classified as all vegetation greater than 3m. “All vegetation” includes all vegetation, including tree canopy, greater than 0m. Note: due to data limitations, not all grass areas have been identified in their entirety.

NSW Land Use 2017 v1.5
공공데이터포털
The 2017 Landuse captures how the landscape in NSW is being used for food production, forestry, nature conservation, infrastructure and urban development. It can be used to monitor changes in the landscape and identify impacts on biodiversity values and individual ecosystems. The NSW 2017 Landuse mapping is dated September 2017. This is version 1.5 of the dataset, published December 2023. Version 1.5 of the 2017 Landuse incorporates the following updates: Fine scale mapping of the Central Coast, Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions Mapping enhancements to regional centres to improve the mapping accuracy for these centres NSW road network based on road centreline data from Transport NSW, with standardised buffer applied to approximate the carriage width based on the road type Plantation type (native hardwood and softwood) information within State Forest Estates Horticulture data to tertiary or commodity level present in September 2017 from Australian Tree Crop Map Dashboard developed by University of New England - Applied Agricultural Remote Sensing Centre https://www.une.edu.au/research/research-centres-institutes/applied-agricultural-remote-sensing-centre/collaborative-r-and-d-opportunities/industry-applications-and-maps Fixes to identified errors since published version 1.2 Previous Versions *Version 1.4 internal update (not published) * Version 1.3 internal update (not published) * Version 1.2 published 24 June 2020 - Fine scale update to Greater Sydney Metropolitan Area * Version 1 published August 2019 The 2017 Landuse is based on Aerial imagery and Satellite imagery available for NSW. These include, but not limited to; digital aerial imagery (ADS) captured by NSW Department of Customer Service (DCS), high resolution urban (Conurbation) digital aerial imagery captured on behalf of DCS, SPOT 5, 6 & 7(Airbus), Planet™, Sentinel 2 (European Space Agency) and LANDSAT (NASA) Satellite Imagery. Mapping also includes commercially available imagery from Nearmap™ and Google Earth™, along with Google Street View™. Mapping takes into consideration ancillary datasets such as tenure such as National Parks and State forests, cadastre, roads parcels, land zoning, topographic information and Google Maps, in conjunction with visual interpretation and field validation of patterns and features on the ground. The 2017 Landuse was captured on screen using ARC GIS (Geographical Information Software) at a scale of 1:8,000 scale (or better) and features are mapped down to 2 hectares in size. Exceptions were made for targeted Landuse classes such as horticulture, intensive animal husbandry and urban environments, which were mapped at a finer scale. The 2017 Landuse has complete coverage of NSW. It also includes updates to the fine scale Horticulture mapping for the east coast of NSW - Newcastle to the Queensland boarder and Murray-Riverina Region. This horticultural mapping includes operations to the commodity level based on field work and high-resolution imagery interpretation. Landuse classes assigned are based on activities that have occurred in the last 5-10 years that may be part of a rotational practice. Time-series LANDSAT information has been used in conjunction with more recent Satellite Imagery to determine whether grasslands have been disturbed or subject to ongoing land management activities over the past 30 years. The 2017 Landuse was captured on screen using ARC GIS (Geographical Information Software) at a scale of 1:8,000 scale (or better) and features are mapped down to 2 hectares in size. Exceptions were made for targeted Landuse classes such as horticulture, intensive animal husbandry and urban environments (including Greater Sydney Metropolitan region), which were mapped at a finer scale. The reliability scale of the dataset is 1:10,000. Mapping has been subject to a peer review and quality assurance process. Land use information has been captured in accordance with standards set by the Australian Collaborative Land Use Mapping
Spatial Data - Urban Forest Mesh Blocks - 2016 (DPLH-042)
공공데이터포털
Based on Landgate’s high resolution aerial imagery, CSIRO generate the Urban Monitor mosaic from which vegetation height strata of endemic and exotic species has been calculated and reported as an area for each height strata of 0 – 3 m, 3 – 8 m, 8 – 15 m and 15+ m. The area of grass covered areas falling into the 0 – 50 cm range has also been calculated and recorded in square metres. Vegetation coverage greater than 3 metres in height has been deemed tree canopy. The canopies have been aggregated and reported as total canopy coverage in square metres. Urban Forest Mesh Blocks have been published for the following years: 2009, 2014, 2016, 2018. Parcels to be analysed were sourced from the 2016 Integrated Land Information Database (ILID) and supplied to CSIRO by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage. The results were assembled into Urban Forest features where the Urban Monitor coverage was complete. Land parcels were assigned locational data (2016 ABS meshblocks, suburbs, local government authority (LGA) and planning sub-region) based on the parcel centroid. They were then attributed with the following land use categories: • Street Block: residential, commercial, industrial, hospital/medical, educational, and some agricultural and transport land uses • Parks: public parks, open space, private recreation grounds and State Forest • Roads: roads including road reserves • Other Infrastructure: rail, airports and utilities infrastructure • Other: land uses in transition that have not progressed sufficiently to be Street Blocks or do not conform to urban form • Rural: primary production land that does not fall in categories above • Water: ocean and other waterways, including reservoirs The vegetation height strata areas and total canopy coverage values were calculated for each land parcel. The statistics were then aggregated by the field MB_MonitorCategory, a concatenation of the fields MB_CODE16 and MonitorCategory. Canopy coverage percentages and ranges were calculated based on the sum of the area of parcels within each MB_MonitoryCategory. As parcels with sufficient Urban Monitor coverage for Urban Forest analysis may vary between years making comparison difficult, a field called MBPercentage was added which shows the percentage of the total MB_MonitorCategory area (MBArea) covered by parcels with Urban Forest values for that year. Corresponding MBPercentage values for all published years were also added to inform users. NOTE: As mesh block attributes were assigned based on parcel centroid, aggregated mesh block boundaries based on the parcels may not match ABS mesh block boundaries, and MBAreas will not match ABS mesh block areas.
