본 연구에서는 의사소통 역량 중심의 글쓰기 평가를 설계하여 우리나라 초·중등학교 학생들의 글쓰기 능력 수준과 특성을 파악하고, 변화하는 사회를 살아가기 위해 필요한 글쓰기 능력을 갖추고 신장시킬 수 있는 교육적 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 전체 2개년 연구 가운데 1차 연도에 해당하는 올해는, 글쓰기 능력 개념 및 발달에 관한 국내외 문헌 검토(Ⅱ장)와 해외의 글쓰기 평가 사례를 조사(Ⅲ장)하고, 이를 바탕으로 의사소통 역량 중심의 글쓰기 평가틀과 예시문항을 개발(Ⅳ장·Ⅴ장)하는 데 연구의 중점을 두었다.
