This record describes Underway (UWY) data collected from the Marine National Facility RV Investigator Charter Voyage IN2015_C02 titled: Great Australian Bight (GAB) Deep water pelagic and benthic ecosystem study. The voyage took place between the 30th November to 22nd December 2015 departing Port Lincoln (SA) and arriving in Fremantle (WA). Standard Underway data is continuously recorded consisting of: (1) NAV: Navigation data: (dual GPS) Latitude, Longitude, Speed, Heading, course over ground, Gyros, and Doppler Log. (2) TSG: Thermosalinograph: Water Salinity, flow-rate, Temperature, Fluorescence, and pCO2. (3) MET: Atmospheric (port and starboard): Humidity, Wind speed and direction (vane and ultrasonic), Radiometer, Pyranometer, PAR, Air temperature, Air pressure, Rain, Ozone and Trace gases. Data are recorded at 5 second intervals. Near real-time data is available via the link below. This dataset has been processed and archived within the CSIRO Oceans & Atmosphere Data Centre in Hobart. Data is available in 5sec intervals in NetCDF, 10 sec and 5 min intervals in ascii csv format. This record describes Hydrology (HYD) data collected from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator voyage IN2023_V02, titled: "Gigantic submarine landslide offshore western Tasmania: risk mitigation for shelf derived tsunami in Australia." The voyage took place between March 24 and April 30, 2023, departing from Hobart (TAS) and returning to Hobart. Hydrology samples were collected from Niskin bottles sampled at various depths during Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) deployments. Parameters analysed were salinity, dissolved oxygen, phosphate, silicate, nitrate plus nitrite and ammonium. This dataset has been processed (quality-controlled), and archived at the CSIRO National Collections and Marine Infrastructure (NCMI) Information and Data Centre (IDC) in Hobart. This dataset has been processed (quality-controlled), and archived by the CSIRO National Collections and Marine Infrastructure (NCMI) Information and Data Centre (IDC). Data are available at time intervals of 5 sec (NetCDF format), 5 sec, 10 sec, 1 min and 5 min (ASCII format). This record describes the Underway (UWY) data collected from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator Voyage IN2019_V02, titled: "SOTS: Southern Ocean Time Series automated moorings for climate and carbon cycle studies southwest of Tasmania; Subantarctic Biogeochemistry of Carbon and Iron, Southern Ocean Time Series site." The voyage took place between March 14 and April 5, 2019 departing from Hobart (TAS) and arriving in Hobart. Standard Underway data is continuously recorded, consisting of: (1) Navigation data (NAV): Latitude, Longitude, Speed, Heading, Course Over Ground, Gyros, and Doppler Log (dual GPS instrument). (2) Thermosalinograph (TSG): Water Salinity, Flow-Rate, Temperature, Fluorescence, pCO2 and Optode/Oxygen. (3) Atmospheric (MET): Humidity, Wind Speed and Direction (vane and ultrasonic), Radiometer/Sea Surface Temperature, Pyranometer/Solar Radiation, Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), Air Temperature, Air Pressure, Rain, Ozone and Trace Gases (port and starboard instruments). The quality-controlled RV Investigator underway meteorological and SST data are supplied to the IMOS AODN where they are publicly available at the "Ships of Opportunity" Thredds server (http://thredds.aodn.org.au/thredds/catalog/IMOS/SOOP/SOOP-ASF/VLMJ_Investigator/catalog.html) for research. From there, they are downloaded by NOAA for their In Situ Quality Monitoring web site (iQUAM2) and made available for satellite SST validation. The SBE 38 SST data are used within the Australian Bureau of Meteorology for real-time satellite SST validation and ingested into real-time SST analyses which are then used as the boundary condition for Numerical Weather Prediction models. The meteorological and SST data are uploaded onto the Global Telecommunications System (GTS) for global dissemination to Meteorological Agencies, and separately supplied to the SAMOS (http://samos.coaps.fsu.edu/html/) Project for air-sea flux research. This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2015_c02, Great Australian Bight Research Program: GAB deep-water pelagic and benthic ecosystem study which departed Port Lincoln on the 30 November 2015 and returned to Fremantle on the 22 December 2015. The Kongsberg EM122 multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry, backscatter and watercolumn backscatter information around the Great Australian Bight. The EM122 provides a 1 degree by 1 degree angular resolution. The echosounder's nominal frequency is 12 kHz. Data are stored in .all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and .wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 287 .all files and 13 .wcd files totalling 11.6 GB of raw data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were not applied to the processed data. Processed data had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format. There are 938 files totalling 39.5 GB of raw bathymetry/backscatter data and 937 (.wcd) files totaling 56.7 GB of watercolumn data in this dataset. . Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in .all format are corrected for motion and position. GPS tide was computed using the EGM2008 model and applied to the processed data. In some cases of bad navigation due to runoff issues with the POSMV, the Seapath navigation (Nav source 3) was applied instead. These lines are noted in the multibeam processing log (in2023_v02_MBES_processing_log.xlsx). Processed data had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format. This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on RV Investigator research charter, IN2015_C01, 'GAB deep water geological and benthic ecology program' which departed Hobart on the 25 October and returned to Port Lincoln on the 28 November. A short sea trial voyage (October 22 - 25, Hobart - Hobart) was undertaken prior to the charter. Data for those days is also included in this data set. The Kongsberg EM710 multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry, backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter. The EM710 provides a 0.5° by 1° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively. The echosounder's nominal frequency range is from 70 to 100 kHz. Data are stored in .all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and .wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 65 files totalling 4.93 GB of raw data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format is corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were not applied to the processed data. Processed data had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format. Data are stored in .all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and .wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 458 files totalling 70.5 GB of raw bathymetry/backscatter data and 458 (*.wcd) files totaling 528 GB of watercolumn data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. GPS tide was computed using the EGM2008 model and applied to the processed data for most lines. In some cases of bad navigation due to runoff issues with the POSMV, data were reduced using tides instead of GPS heighting and complemented by the application of delayed heave. These lines are noted in the multibeam processing log (in2023_v02_MBES_processing_log.xlsx).
