Franklin Voyage FR 07/1997 HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data

This record contains data collected at 16 stations on the Franklin cruise FR07/07 in an area between the mouth of the Sepik River, Papua New Guinea and the equator. The data were collected to determine the bio-optical characteristics of this region and the effect of the Sepik River outflow on such data. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (a/p) and detrital or non-algal (a/d) components of the water column. A BSI (Biospherical Instruments) six channel radiometer was also deployed during this voyage.

Laurina P HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data September 1997 - April 1998

This record contains data collected on the FV Laurina P on four voyages between September 1997 and April 1998, along the NSW coast between Byron Bay and Wapengo. A total of 56 samples were collected. This record contains data collected on the FV Elena Rose between 14-16 May 1997. Only one trip was made using this vessel, out of Eden, NSW and 11 samples were collected during the trip. Further work carried out for the SeaWiFS project from Eden was made from aboard the Fv Laurina P. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. This record contains data collected on the RV Southern Surveyor on the west coast of Tasmania. The cruise ran from 23 July to 06 August 2004, with samples for this dataset collected between 26 July and 02 August 2004. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and retrieved chlorophyll a estimate, the absorption coefficient for dissolved (aCDOM) particulate (a/p) and detrital or non-algal (a/d) components of the water column. 12 stations were sampled. The data was used primarily to validate ocean colour sensors MERIS, MODIS and SeaWIFs and the SST sensor AATSR. Samples were collected and analysed for pigments, and dissolved and particulate absorption coefficients.

This record contains data collected on the charter vessel Megaptera between 19 and 24 May 2004, near Heron Island. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and retrieved chlorophyll-a estimate, the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (a/p) and detrital or non-algal (a/d) components of the water column. 8 stations were sampled. The data was used primarily to validate ocean colour sensors MERIS, MODIS and SeaWIFs and the SST sensor AATSR. Samples were collected and analysed for pigments, total suspended solids (TSS) and absorption coefficient, dissolved and particulate.

Southern Surveyor Voyage SS 02/99 HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data

This record contains data collected at 20 stations on the Southern Surveyor cruise SS02/99. Water samples were generally collected along the transect of around 142deg E from 40-55deg S to determinethe bio-optical charateristics of this region. The data can be used for Ocean Colour and CDOM sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (a/p) and detrital or non-algal (a/d) components of the water column. Much of this was a repeat of a transect sampled during March 1998 on the Aurora Australis cruise AA06/97. In addition to the station samples, 25 water samples were collected from the outflow of the underway fluorometer and analysed for chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments only.
