Tasmania, Derwent River, January 2008, HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data

This record contains data collected on the charter vessel RV Explorer between 16 and 18 January 2008 from the Derwent River, Tasmania. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and retrieved chlorophyll a estimate, the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (ap) and detrital or non-algal (ad) components of the water column; 14 stations were sampled. The data was used primarily to validate ocean colour sensors MERIS, MODIS and SeaWIFs. Samples were collected and analysed for pigments, total suspended solids (TSS) and absorption coefficient, dissolved and particulate. CLW deployed instruments RAMSES, ac-9, Hydroscat and Hydrorad.

Laurina P HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data September 1997 - April 1998

This record contains data collected on the FV Laurina P on four voyages between September 1997 and April 1998, along the NSW coast between Byron Bay and Wapengo. A total of 56 samples were collected. This record contains data collected on the charter vessel Maritime Image between 14 and 17 April 2003 off the southwest of Western Australia . The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and retrieved chlorophyll a estimate, the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (a/p) and detrital or non-algal (a/d) components of the water column. Eleven stations were sampled. The data was used primarily to alidate ocean colour sensors MERIS, MODIS and SeaWIFs and the SST sensor AATSR. Samples were collected and analysed for pigments, total suspended solids (TSS) and absorption coefficient, dissolved and particulate. CLW deployed instruments RAMSES, AC-9, Hydroscat and Hydrorad.

The cruise ran from 23 July to 06 August 2004, with samples for this dataset collected between 26 July and 02 August 2004. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Samples were collected and analysed for pigments, and dissolved and particulate absorption coefficients.

Franklin Voyage FR 01/2000 HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data

This record contains data collected at 17 stations on the Franklin cruise FR01/2000 in an area between the mouth of the Sepik River, Papua New Guinea and the equator, plus an additional 4 stations sampled within the Sepik River. The data were collected to determine the bio-optical characteristics of this region and the effect of the Sepik River outflow on such data. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments in the water column. The six channel radiometer was also deployed during this voyage.

This record contains data collected from the near-water surface sampling site off the Lucinda Jetty, as part of the Lucinda Jetty Coastal Observatory. The samples were collected from April 8th to 9th, 2010. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured include the absorption coefficients of the particulate and dissolved components of the water column and the phytoplankton pigment concentration and composition.

P&O Nedlloyd Brisbane HPLC Pigment and Ocean Colour Data December 1999 - October 2000

This record contains data collected on the P&O Nedlloyd Brisbane between December 1999 and October 2000 as part of the CSIRO Ocean Observing Experiment (COOE). This vessel circumnavigated Australia every 28 days with an additional stop in the Port of Singapore. Underway T, S and F were measured continuously throughout the period of the project. At times an observer was on board and collected samples from the outflow of the underway system for the determination of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments, the absorption co-efficient for the dissolved component (aCDOM) of the water and salinity. In all 277 samples were collected during the 10 month period of the project. Retrieved chlorophyll a estimates from the SeaWifs ocean colour sensor were also collected and compared with the in situ data.
