,CalEnviroScreen 4.0 was released in October 2021 as part of continued efforts by the CalEPA’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment to map cumulative impacts of environmental health conditions across California. This tool enables users to select areas of interest based on various geographies, CalEnviroScreen scores, percentile ranges or thresholds for any combination of the 21 CalEnviroScreen indicators. It can also select areas by ethnic or racial makeup. Users can view data summaries and maps that update automatically as different filters are selected and applied. ,The California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) is responsible for identifying disadvantaged communities for purposes of the Cap-and-Trade funding program. After reviewing the updated results from CalEnviroScreen 3.0 and taking into consideration previous comments and input received over the past two years, including workshops held in February 2017, CalEPA is designating the highest scoring 25% of census tracts from CalEnviroScreen 3.0 as disadvantaged communities. ,,It has been 10 years since CalEPA and OEHHA released the first version of CalEnviroScreen, a groundbreaking environmental justice (EJ) mapping tool that identifies areas most affected by multiple forms of pollution. We would like to acknowledge the work that went into the project and celebrate the many people that informed the direction of CalEnviroScreen.,Over the past decade, the tool has focused environmental protection and enforcement actions by combining a variety of data sources to highlight communities living at the intersection of pollution and poverty. It has become a powerful way for EJ communities to bring data-driven attention to issues they face and has helped direct over 6 billion dollars in California climate investments.,
