The accession contains Bathythermograph (XBT and Aerial XBT) data collected as part of Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) / North Atlantic Bloom Survey (NABS) in North Atlantic Ocean. The data was collected by Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL), National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA), and San Diego State University. NASA-P3 AXBT data (depth in meters and temperature in degrees celsius) was collected during the JGOFS/ North Atlantic Spring Bloom experiment. There are ten flights total, with header information included in the first record of each flight. This data was submitted in ASCII format on a 3-1/2" diskette. This data has been processed and is available in C118 Bathythermograph XBT Aircraft file format of NODC. Principal Investigator was Dr. Frank Hoge of NASA, Wallops Island. Five diskettes of bio-optical and AXBT data [legs 4 & 5] Bio-optical profiler data (up and downwelling of spectral irradiance and upwelling spectral radiance), ctd, and chlorophyll fluorescence data collected during leg-2, cruise 119 of the 1989 JGOFS/NABE (North American Spring Bloom experiment) cruise of the ATLANTIS II. The original data is on a 3 1/2" diskette in the form of 44-column comma-delimited ASCII files; There are 15 stations (files) total. Principal investigator was W. Joseph Rhea of Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology. 3100 bio-optical profiler data (smoothed irradiance and radiance data), temperature, and chlorophyll-a fluorescence data collected during cruise 119, leg 5, of the JGOFS/NABE R/V Atlantis cruise. Primary production, temperature, meteorological, and other data were collected in the North Atlantic, coastal North Atlantic, and other locations from 1931 to 1997. Data were collected from the ATLANTIS I from 1931 to 1963 and the ATLANTIS II from 1963 to 1997. Data include profiles of temperature, salinity, pH, and rates of primary production. Data also include concentration profiles of oxygen, particulate organic carbon, phosphate, total phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, silicate, ammonia, and chlorophyll a. Data were submitted by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) and are in a comma separated value (.csv) format.

The Ocean Station Data from 17 stations; and Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) data from 49 casts were collected using ship Stark during cruises # 688-711. The data was collected from January 1, 1991 to December 31, 1991 in NW Atlantic (limit-40 W) by Bermuda Biological Station for Research, Inc. and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA. The Station S data was received by NODC via internet from George Heimerdinger.

The Ocean Station Data; and Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) Bottle data from 25 casts were collected using ship R/V Weatherbird II during cruises # 791-813. The data was collected from January 1, 1995 to December 31, 1995 in Bremuda, NW Atlantic (limit-40 W) by Bermuda Biological Station for Research, Inc. and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA. The Station S data was received by NODC via internet from George Heimerdinger.

Temperature, salinity, and nutrients data were collected from CTD and bottle casts in the Pacific Ocean from the Nathaniel B. Palmer from 08 October 1996 to 05 November 1996. Data were collected as part of the US JGOFS Antarctic Environments Southern Ocean Process Study (AESOPS). CTD data include temperature and salinity profiles. Bottle data include concentration profiles of nitrate, nitrite, silicate, phosphate, ammonia, phaeopigment, and chlorophyll a.

Hydrochemical, hydrophysical, and other data were collected from NOAA Ship OREGON II, ENDEAVOR, OCEANUS, NOAA Ship CHAPMAN, SEWARD JOHNSON, NOAA Ship DELAWARE II, and NOAA Ship ALBATROSS IV from June 9, 1991 to April 19, 1996. Data were submitted by Dr. Dave Mountain of US DOC; NOAA; NATIONAL MARINE FISHERIES SERVICE - WOODS HOLE. These data were collected using bottle casts in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean.
