The National Directory of Mental Health Treatment Facilities for 2012 lists federal facilities (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers), state and local government (public) facilities, and private (for profit and nonprofit) facilities that responded to the 2010 National Mental Health Services Survey (N-MHSS), a national survey the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) conducts biennially. The facilities were eligible if they indicated a primary focus of providing mental health treatment services. The information about each facility that appears in this directory was provided by that facility in response to the 2010 N-MHSS. The directory is ordered alphabetically by state, by city within each state, and by facility name within each city.

This report presents findings from the 2020 National Mental Health Services Survey (N-MHSS), an annual census of all known facilities in the United States, both public and private, that provide mental health treatment services to people with mental illness. Planned and directed by the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality (CBHSQ) of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the N-MHSS is designed to collect data on the location, characteristics, and utilization of organized mental health treatment services for facilities within the scope of the survey throughout the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and other jurisdictions.

These state profiles include data from facilities that reported to N-MHSS for the survey reference date April 30, 2020. The N-MHSS collects data on the location, characteristics, services offered, and number of clients (collected every other year) in treatment at mental health treatment facilities (public and private) throughout the 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, and other jurisdictions.
