This dataset contains water temperature, salinity, and other parameters taken by CTD during the 2018 Bering Strait mooring cruise. Data are in CNV format. The cruise was funded by the NSF-Arctic Observing Network grants: - PLR-1304052 (PIs: Woodgate, Heimbach and Nguyen), and - PLR-1758565 (PIs: Woodgate and Peralta-Ferriz). The data are from a ~ 10 day cruise on the US vessel Norseman II from 2018-08-10 to 2018-08-19 sailing from and to Nome, Alaska, USA to the Bering Strait and the Southern Chukchi Sea. The cruise was also to service oceanographic moorings in the strait and those data are archived separately. A total of 142 casts were taken and are included in this archive. No water samples were taken during this cruise. Stations were taken in US waters near mooring locations and on sections in the Bering Strait and southern Chukchi Sea. See cruise report for map, station locations, calibration, and processing details. The data are taken using an SBE911p system, recording pressure, temperature (dual system), conductivity (dual system), oxygen (dual system), fluorescence, and turbidity. This archive is of data from 150 CTD casts taken during the 2013 Norseman II cruise to the Bering Strait. For positions, see file headers or the cruise report accompanying these data. Data were preliminary processed at sea, as per cruise report, and bottle files were obtained from this processing. Subsequently, significant issues were found with the data as regards to lack of reliability of salinity and oxygen on the downcasts. A reprocessing attempts to address these issues. (Bottle data were not reprocessed.) This archive includes: 1) the raw data files (.hdr, .hex. and .XMLCON) for each cast, so the user may reprocess the data to their own standards, 2) 2db average UPCAST data for each cast, as per Oct 2015 data processing. As will be discussed below, these data provide (we believe) the most reliable salinity and oxygen data (although note no oxygen or salinity samples were taken for validation), 3) the 2db resolution reflects uncertainty in the depth of the data as the upcast data are being used, 4) casts with particularly suspect salinity data at times of sharp temperature gradients (Casts 83, 90,91,94,100,101,103) are placed in a subdirectory, and 5) the .ros and .btl bottle data as obtained from the processing at sea. We encourage those seeking parameters to match bottle samples to consider also the 2db averaged cast data. A summary of know problems include: 1) salinity values at times of sharp temperature gradient and 2) salinity and oxygen values on the downcasts. The main work was undertaken through sectional observations of the above mentioned sea areas. During the 6th Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition, about 14 days (2014.7.22—2014.8.4) had been taken to investigate the marine physical, chemical oceanography and biological ecology, as well as marine geology. Different parameters had been observed, including 53 CTD sites, 53 LADCP sites, 12 Chlorophyll sites, 19 Zooplankton sites and 22 Nutrients sites. Besides, 16 sedimentary cores or surface sediments had been collected. These data are submitted as part of the World Data Service for Oceanography, Marine Research data U2014-022.
