Water quality, habitat, sampling methods and characteristics for grass carp in Truman Reservoir Missouri, 2017-2019
Diploid and triploid Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon Idella) tagged with acoustic transmitters were observed in Truman Reservoir, Missouri from February 2017 to March 2019 to determine habitat usage in winter. Habitat parameters were measured at used and available sites to model habitat preference. In addition, tagged fish were targeted during removal attempts to determine the efficacy of using tagged Judas Grass Carp in removing wild conspecifics. This dataset includes information on tagged Grass Carp and habitats they selected as well as capture events and characteristics of the wild fish caught during these attempts.

From 2017-2023, a total of 934 Grass Carp were removed from the Lake Erie basin and tributaries, and 159 were captured in the Mississippi, Missouri, and Lamine Rivers within the state of Missouri in 2022. For each captured fish we documented capture location, water temperature; we measured total length and total weight. Length data was used to assess the removal efforts in Lake Erie. A subset of Lake Erie captures (n=121), and Missouri captures (n=153) were histologically sampled to determine age-at-maturity, fecundity type, developmental timing, and spawning strategies. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) was analyzed to determine if it is a valid proxy for maturity.

The data includes dates, places, and times of sampling events for eggs of invasive Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) in tributaries to the Great Lakes in 2014, 2023 and 2024. Reference data on locations and dates sampled, gears used, and effort are included. Developmental stages for a subset of undamaged, fertilized eggs are provided. Tables include common fields to allow for integration into a relational database to aid data extraction and associating data among tables.

Montgomery County, Maryland Department of Environmental Protection has collected datasets to assess the health of streams since the early 1990s. Datasets include geomorphic stream cross-sectional surveys, fish and benthic macroinvertebrate counts and taxa abundance, and water chemistry data collected at the time of benthic and fish sampling (dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductance, air temperature, and water temperature). Data span years 1992 to 2020 at five watersheds within the Clarksburg study area. Watersheds include a forested reference site (Soper), an urban site with centralized stormwater management (Crystal Rock), and three treatment watersheds (TR104, TR109, and Cabin Branch) within the Clarksburg Special Protection Area that transitioned from agriculture to suburban development with distributed stormwater management. These data were used to assess the impacts of distributed stormwater management on stream ecosystem function. All datasets were collected by Montgomery County, Maryland Department of Environmental Protection.
