The chlorophyll data from Booth Bay Harbor in Gulf of Maine were submitted by Dr. Charles Yentsch from Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. The data was collected aboard several vessels (Atlantis, Crawford, Bear, Chain, Knorr, Tioga, and Oceanographer) and in different sites over a period spanning from September 1956 to June 1982. Reference numbers L00843 thru L00862 represent the different cruises. Only date, latitude/longitude, depth, cruise, and chlorophyll (in mg/m3) are reported.

Chlorophyll-a profiles were collected in the Atlantic Ocean and adjoining seas from March 2, 1961 to October 21, 1992. The data were collected by multiple institutions as part of the North Atlantic Chlorophyll Profile Data Set. This work was supported by funding from the European Space Agency and the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans. The README.pdf file in the about/ directory contains information about the file format and data originators.

A set of phytoplankton pigment measurements collected on eight quarterly transects from France to New Caledonia is analyzed in order to identify the main assemblages of phytoplankton and to relate their occurrence to oceanic conditions.

The accession contains chlorophyll a and phaeophytin data collected by Florida State University in the North American coastline for three time periods in 1986. First data set was collected in February, second was collected in April and the last data set was collected in September of the same year. The principal investigator in this study was Dr. Richard Iverson. The data are in Lotus 1-2-3 format. Approximate study location was Atlantic coast; 26-39 degrees N and 71-80 degrees W. Parameters include: position, chlorophyll a (in milligrams per cubic meter) and phaeophytin (in milligrams per cubic meter). Samples were taken every two hours. This dataset is a scanned Data Documentation Form (DDF) that accompanied submissions on tape of pH, salinity, phosphate, chlorophyll, and alkalinity measurements from the Chesapeake Bay from 1949 to 1965. These measurements were taken by the John Hopkins University Chesapeake Bay Institute and were submitted to the predecessor of NCEI in 1970. This accession was originally created for analog data records. NCEI has no digital representation of data. The paper representation of data in the form of the DDF was assigned NCEI accession 7000995.

Water temperature, salinity, chlorophyll-a, nitrate, phosphate, and other data were collected from a small boat in the Saanich Inlet, British Columbia, from 29 May 1975 to 14 July 1975. Data were collected by the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography (SKIO) as part of the International Decade of Ocean Exploration / Controlled Ecosystem Pollution Experiment (IDOE/CEPEX).
