This project was initiated in response to regulation 50 CFR 660.114, which mandates that economic data be collected from every participant in the trawl rationalization program. The data are collected annually from catcher vessels, catcher processors, motherships, first receivers, and shorebased processors through paper-based forms. The entity must submit their data by September 1, 2012 in order to renew their limited entry trawl permits, reissue their quota share, vessel accounts, and receive their first receiver site licenses. The data is needed for a variety of applications, such as the Northwest Fisheries Science Center's regional economic model (Input-Output Model for Pacific Coast Fisheries) as well as estimating the profitability of fishery participants for applications such as the Pacific Fisheries Management Council's Groundfish harvest specifications process. To assist the Caribbean Fishery Management Council in managing marine living resources in the United States Virgin Islands, the Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC) collected economic cost data from commercial fishermen in July 2014. Surveys were administered in-person during the annual registration process. Per-trip and fixed cost estimates are included. This data set includes survey results merged with individual landings from the territorial governments logbook program. These data represent a cost-earnings study of the boat based fishing in the Mariana Archipelago fielded in 2011. Data collected include fisher classification, vessel characteristics, levels of investment, trip-level expenditures, fishing behavior, market participation, social aspects of the fishery, and demographics. Additionally, attitudes and perceptions towards fisheries management agencies and current and future management tools are described.

During May-August 2004, face-to-face interviews with owners and/or captains of all NWHI bottomfish vessels were conducted to collect primary information on costs of fishing operations in 2003. Information on physical characteristics of the vessels, motivation of fishermen, and other topics was also collected. Follow-up interviews were conducted in September 2004 and March-April 2005 to collect data missed during the first interviews. M. Pan and A. Griesemer conducted the project.

The data set contains trip-level and annual expense and revenue variables. The trip-level survey collects information about dockside revenues and operating costs associated with individual fishing trips. The annual survey requests information about revenues and fixed costs on an annual basis.

This survey collected information to assess the economic value from an anglers perspective of saltwater charter and private boat fishing for selected species in south Atlantic states and to evaluate the economic effect of proposed management alternatives on these anglers. Respondents were anglers who were intercepted (by MRIP) and volunteered to receive a mail survey in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and the east coast of Florida. Questions related to the respondents past experiences with saltwater fishing as well as questions concerning the opinions and attitudes of the respondent about saltwater fishing were asked. A stated preference choice experiment allows for the calculation of willingness to pay related to four important species.
