This dataset includes data which was collected on the R/V ALPHA HELIX cruise HX53 between 10/4/83 - 10/5/83 by Dr. Henrichs of the Institute of Marine Science. There were a total of 15 stations in the Aialik Bay & Resurrection Bay area. This dataset also includes data which was collected on the R/V Alpha Helix cruise HX54 between 10/24/83 - 10/29/83 by Dr. Royer of the Institute of Marine Science. There were a total of 110 stations in the Gulf of Alaska area. This dataset also includes data which was collected on the R/V OSHORO MARU cruise OSM95 between 6/30/83 - 7/9/83 by Ray Hadley of the Institute of Marine Science. There were a total of 14 stations in the Pacific Ocean. Finally, this dataset includes data which was collected on the R/V ALPHA HELIX cruise HX49 between 8/15/83 - 8/21/83 by Dr. McRoy of the Institute of Marine Science. There were a total of 50 stations in the Bering Sea & Chukchi Sea area. Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard High-Resolution CTD/STD (F022) format. The F022 format contains high-resolution data collected using CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) and STD (salinity-temperature-depth) instruments. As they are lowered and raised in the oceans, these electronic devices provide nearly continuous profiles of temperature, salinity, and other parameters. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering or obtained by interpolation and may be reported at depth intervals as fine as 1m. Cruise and instrument information, position, date, time and sampling interval are reported for each station. This dataset includes currents data from current meters in the Bering Sea, collected by Dr. H.J. Niebauer of the Institute of Marine Science. The meters were deployed and recovered during R/V Alpha Helix cruise HX112. This dataset also includes CTD data collected aboard the R/V Thompson on cruise number TT213 in the Bering Sea and Chukchi Sea area between 21-Jul-1987 to 10-Aug-1987 by L. Coachman of the University of Washington, Dept. of Oceanography, CTD data collected aboard the R/V Thompson on cruise number TT214 in the Bering Sea and Chukchi Sea area between 17-Aug-1987 and 29-Jul-1987 by C.P. McRoy of the Institute of Marine Science, CTD data collected aboard the R/V Alpha Helix in the Gulf of Alaska on cruise number HX108 between 30-Nov-1987 and 13-Dec-1987 and cruise number HX114 between 16-Jun-1988 and 29-Jun-1988 by Dr. T.C. Royer of the Institute of Marine Science. Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard F015- Current Meter Data and F022- CTD High Resolutions formats. The F015 format is used for time series measurements of ocean currents. These data are obtained from current meter moorings and represent Eulerian method of current measurement, i.e., the meters are deployed at a fixed point and measure flow past a sensor. Position, bottom depth, sensor depth, and meter characteristics are reported for each station. The data record comprises values of east-west (u) and north-south (v) current vector components at specified date and time. Current direction is defined as the direction toward which the water is flowing with positive directions east and north and negative directions west and south. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering and are typically reported at 10-15 minute time intervals. Water temperature, pressure, and conductivity or salinity may also be reported.
