The University of Alaska is responsible for this data which was collected aboard the R/V Alpha Helix cruise HX65 between 10/29/84 - 11/03/84 by Dr. Royer of the Institute of Marine Science, and aboard the R/V Redoubt cruise RT41 between 10/14/83 - 10/24/83 by Dr. Burrell of the Institute of Marine Science. There were a total of 125 stations in the Gulf of Alaska area and 65 stations in the Boca de Quadra area. Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard High-Resolution CTD/STD (F022) format. The F022 format contains high-resolution data collected using CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) and STD (salinity-temperature-depth) instruments. As they are lowered and raised in the oceans, these electronic devices provide nearly continuous profiles of temperature, salinity, and other parameters. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering or obtained by interpolation and may be reported at depth intervals as fine as 1m. Cruise and instrument information, position, date, time and sampling interval are reported for each station. Environmental data at the time of the cast (meteorological and sea surface conditions) may also be reported. There were a total of 110 stations in the Gulf of Alaska area. This dataset also includes data which was collected on the R/V OSHORO MARU cruise OSM95 between 6/30/83 - 7/9/83 by Ray Hadley of the Institute of Marine Science. There were a total of 14 stations in the Pacific Ocean. Finally, this dataset includes data which was collected on the R/V ALPHA HELIX cruise HX49 between 8/15/83 - 8/21/83 by Dr. McRoy of the Institute of Marine Science. The Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) and Benthic data were collected from Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea using NOAA Ship Alpha Helix. The data was collected over a period spanning from October 4, 1989 to June 26, 1990. Data was submitted on two tapes by Institute of Marine Science, University of Alaska, Fairbanks, AK.
