PRESSURE - WATER and Other Data from UNKNOWN From World-Wide Distribution from 1985-04-01 to 1990-11-30 (NCEI Accession 9100014)
This data set contains the Navy's Master Oceanographic Observation Data Set (MOODS) declassified data from April 1, 1985-November 30, 1990. This data which contains only the radio declassified radio message bathythermograph reports has been quality improved to remove duplicates, identify platforms. The data was submitted by A.D. Stroud of Ocean Applications Group, Fleet Numerical Oceanography Center, Monterey, CA. The data are binary in the MOODS format. The documentation includes data distribution maps. *Original data was submitted on tape A01351.

The Master Oceanographic Observation Data Set (MOODS), maintained by the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO), Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, is the standard Navy database for oceanographic observations. Data contained in MOODS include observations of thermal and chemical properties of the water column from surface to bottom, the biota and currents in the water column, and the underlying sea floor as collected by oceanographic agencies worldwide. Five ACII files of depth/temperature profile data from August 31, 1991 and March 31, 1995 were submitted by Mr. Robert S. Rushton. Data received by NODC via Mr. Richard J. Enkoji via FTP.

This entry contains CTD data from the National Ocean Service, Rockville, MD circulation survey of Willapa Bay and Grays Harbor, Washington. These data were collected from May to July 1982 using NOAA Ship McARTHUR. Salinities and times are not included in this data set. Data were collected with an Aanderaa RCM4 current meter and PLESSEY 9041 and APPLIED MICROSYSTEM #12 CTD's. Data were collected in association with NOAA Operation #OPR-N-802-AR-82. Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard High-Resolution CTD/STD (F022) format. The F022 format contains high-resolution data collected using CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) and STD (salinity-temperature-depth) instruments. As they are lowered and raised in the oceans, these electronic devices provide nearly continuous profiles of temperature, salinity, and other parameters. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering or obtained by interpolation and may be reported at depth intervals as fine as 1m. Cruise and instrument information, position, date, time and sampling interval are reported for each station. Environmental data at the time of the cast (meteorological and sea surface conditions) may also be reported. The data record comprises values of temperature, salinity or conductivity, density (computed sigma-t), and possibly dissolved oxygen or transmissivity at specified depth or pressure levels. Data may be reported at either equally or unequally spaced depth or pressure intervals. A text record is available for comments.

This dataset contains data collected as part of Shipboard Environmental data Acquisition System (SEAS) III program. The cruises were conducted using many different ships. The bathythermograph (XBT) data was collected between January 5, 1989 and September 19, 1991. The data containing 2,458 observations were sent from the cruise ships to the National Ocean Service, Rockville, MD via telecommunication. This data is currently available in the C116 file format of NODC.
