This dataset comprises Columbia River current data from 1967 to 1973 collected from current meters attached to buoys as part of the AEC sponsored Columbia River Project, including current speed and direction, and U and V vectors.

The study was conducted by University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, Miami, Florida. The data collected were continuous physical data. Time series, current measurements and other data were collected. Current meter and depth sensors from fixed platform were used to collect data from September 23, 1972 to December 31, 1974.

Current and other data were collected from moored buoys from the A. A. CUNNINGHAM and other platforms in coastal waters of California from 19 April 1989 to 17 July 1990. Data were collected by the University of Washington as part of the Southern California Bight Experiment. Parameters include current speed, current direction, u component of velocity, v component of velocity, and temperature. Some instruments also include conductivity as indicated by a C in the variable(Variable) column. S indicates speed, rather than the usual u and v; this results from bad compass data.

Current and other data were collected from FIXED PLATFORMS from 20 January 1994 to 16 March 1994. Data was collected by the National Ocean Service (NOS) and is self formatting. Parameters include horizontal velocity, vertical velocity, and current direction. Graphical representation of East components (u) and North components (v) are included.

Current meter - direction and other data were collected from FIXED PLATFORMS. Data were collected by the National Ocean Service (NOS) from 27 June 1972 to 10 October 1972. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F005 - Current Meter Data (Resultants) format. The F005 format is used for time series measurements of ocean currents obtained using moored current-measuring instruments, principally Aanderaa current meters (manufactured by Aanderaa Instruments Inc.). These data represent the Eulerian method of current measurement, i.e., the meters are deployed at a fixed mooring point and measure flow past the sensor. Position, water depth, and sensor depth are reported for each station. The data record comprises values of current direction and speed at specified date and time. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering and are typically reported at 10-15 minute time intervals. Other environmental parameters may also be reported. These include: water temperature, salinity, conductivity, and transmissivity; wind direction and speed; and dominant wave direction, height, and period. These data are obtained from current meter moorings and represent the Eulerian method of current measurement, i.e., the meters are deployed at a fixed point and measure flow past a sensor. Position, bottom depth, sensor depth and meter characteristics are reported for each station. The data record includes values of east-west (u) and north-south (v) current vector components at specified date and time. Current direction is defined as the direction toward which the water is flowing with positive directions east and north. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering and are typically reported at 10 - 15 minute time intervals. Water temperature, pressure and conductivity or salinity may also be reported. This data set is a processed version of data obtained during the First GARP (Global Atmospheric Research Program) Global Experiment (FGGE). The data were obtained by 359 individual drifting buoys from November 1978 to January 1981 mostly in the southern hemisphere oceans. This data set was processed by Dr. Steven L. Patterson from NODC. The buoys were supplied by different countries. Included in the documentation is a description of the data set and a manuscript titled "Surface Circulation and Kinetic Energy Distribution in the South by S.L. Patterson". This paper was published in the Journal of Physical Oceanography 15 (7).
