Oceanographic data collected during the EX1502L2 (Caribbean Exploration (Mapping)) expedition on NOAA Ship OKEANOS EXPLORER in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2015-03-16 to 2015-04-03 (NCEI Accession 0127386)
EM302 multibeam data will be collected 24 hours a day and will be gathered over previously unexplored regions. Data will be used to better understand the bathymetry of the Puerto Rican trench and allow reconnaissance of the region prior to the ROV cruise. Multibeam operations within 5 miles of land in priority area 1 will be conducted during daylight hours. XBT casts will be conducted at an interval defined by prevailing oceanographic conditions, but not to exceed 6 hours. XBT data will be used to correct the sound velocity of the multibeam data. Additionally, EK 60 (single beam) and sub-bottom profile data will be collected 24 hours per day.

Transit mapping operations will collect bathymetry, sub-bottom profiles, water column backscatter, and seafloor backscatter over the continental shelf and Claypile Bank in accordance with request from the scientific community. Survey mapping operations will collect continuous bathymetry, sub-bottom profiles, water column backscatter, and seafloor backscatter over the area to the south of Flower Garden Banks NMS, also in accordance with the scientific community. Data will provide details about biological habitats in the area and improve understanding of the ecological connection between mid-water and deepwater biological communities. During EX-14-02 Leg 2, multibeam, single beam, and sub-bottom profile data will be collected 24 hours a day and XBT casts will be conducted at an interval defined by prevailing oceanographic conditions, but not to exceed 6 hours.

Multibeam, single beam, and subbottom sonar data will be collected 24 hours a day and XBT casts will be conducted at an interval defined by prevailing oceanographic conditions, but not to exceed 3-4 hours. EX1404L1 will perform baseline characterization mapping (multibeam, splitbeam, subbottom) of New England Seamount chain in preparation for EX1404L3. During transiting to and from seamounts, exploration mapping will include areas of poor quality from existing ECS data and gaps in ECS data.

공공데이터포털
This dataset contains oceanographic data collected in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI), beginning in Mutan, Saipan and concluding in Santa Rita, Guam. Exploration operations for this cruise focused on deep-water areas near the northern edge of CNMI and the Trench and Islands units of the Marianas Trench Marine National Monument (MTMNM). Operations used the ship’s deep water mapping systems and the ship’s high-bandwidth satellite connection for periodic real-time ship to shore communications. This leg of the CAPSTONE Expeditions was a 24-hour mapping cruise that focused on previously unmapped sites within the CNMI US EEZ and MTMNM, all of which occurred in U.S. waters.
