A refined electrofishing technique for collecting Silver Carp: Implications for management. Supporting data
The table provides all fish collected using two different electrofishing methods at Illinois River sites in 2012 and 2013. Length and weights were taken on most species and gender was taken from Silver Carp. Fishes were categorized whether they were netters (caught by nets) or jumpers (jumped in the boat while sampling) and only netters were used in analyses. Large numbers of shad were collected in 2013 and an additional spreadsheet includes abundance data in an aggregated form for those sites. The data is not sensitive/classified and there are no legal restrictions on who may obtain or use the data.

Fish target lengths of Silver Carp derived from Adaptive Resolution Imaging Sonar in backwater embayments of Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, Kentucky, 2022 February 18–23
공공데이터포털
This dataset represents fish targets (presumed Silver Carp, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) recorded using Adaptive Resolution Imaging Sonar (ARIS; Sound Metrics, Bellevue, WA) in five backwater embayments of Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, KY (2022 February). A surface-to-bottom block net was set across embayments in a “chevron” shape pointed upstream to guide fish movements downstream through net openings (about 15 m wide) along each shoreline and within sonar range for quantification. Fish targets were enumerated then subsampled for length measurement using a systematic random approach.
Electrofishing Results and Sampling of Bull Trout and Other Aquatic Vertebrates in the Vicinity of Yellow Pine, Idaho 2016
공공데이터포털
This data set summarizes electrofishing effort, observations, and tissue sampling of aquatic vertebrates near Yellow Pine, Idaho. Sampling was conducted using a backpack electrofishing unit at two reference sites including Cane Creek and Sugar Creek, and at three mine impact sites including Sugar Creek and Cinnabar Creek. Juvenile Bull Trout (Salvelinus confluentus) were present at all five sites and were the primary species targeted during our sampling effort. Additional tissue samples of Sculpin, and amphibians were taken when available. Where possible, a two pass (quantitative depletion) electrofishing survey was conducted at each site for non-USGS stakeholders (Nez Perce Tribe and Idaho Department of Fish and Game) to estimate population density if necessary to fit project needs. Electrofishing efforts were immediately halted when adult spawning Bull Trout were encountered so as to minimize harm to that species and in those cases a two pass quantitative depletion survey was not completed. Both summarized and site specific data included are in tabular form. Data is presented in both .csv and .xlsx format, the content within the Excel workbook is the same content within each individual .csv and .jpeg.

Electrofishing Data from the Miramichi River, New Brunswick (SFA 16)
공공데이터포털
PURPOSE: To track juvenile Atlantic salmon densities. DESCRIPTION: Indices of freshwater production are derived annually from electrofishing surveys in the Miramichi River of New Brunswick. Juvenile salmon abundances at sites, in terms of number of fish per habitat area sampled by age or size group (densities), are obtained using successive removal sampling or catch per unit effort sampling calibrated to densities. Sampling intensities vary among years and among rivers. PARAMETERS COLLECTED: Species counts (ecological); point (spatial). USE LIMITATION: To ensure scientific integrity and appropriate use of the data, we would encourage you to contact the data custodian.
Electrofishing Data from Southeast New Brunswick (SFA 16B)
공공데이터포털
PURPOSE: To monitor juvenile Atlantic salmon densities over time. DESCRIPTION: Indices of freshwater production are derived annually from electrofishing surveys in Southeast New Brunswick. Juvenile Atlantic salmon abundances at sites, divided by age or size group and reported in terms of number of fish per habitat area sampled (density), are obtained using successive removal sampling or catch per unit effort sampling (which is calibrated using successive removal sampling data). Sampling intensities vary among years and among rivers. This dataset comprises raw data on all fish captured and effort invested in the course of monitoring juvenile Atlantic salmon in Southeast, New Brunswick, from 1974 to 2024. Sampling was focused on habitat suitable for Atlantic salmon, and capture of any other species was incidental. PARAMETERS COLLECTED: Distribution (ecological); species counts (ecological); fish lengths (biological); fish weights (biological); point (spatial). USE LIMITATION: To ensure scientific integrity and appropriate use of the data, we would encourage you to contact the data custodian.
Telemetry evaluation of invasive carp herding in Jonathan Creek Embayment, Kentucky Lake, Kentucky
공공데이터포털
Data tables represents a telemetry study assessing the efficacy of sound and electricity used to herd Silver Carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix). The study occurred in Jonathan Creek Embayment of Kentucky Lake, Kentucky using 10 telemetered Silver Carp and 46 passive acoustic receivers. Two herding boats traveled at 2.22 meters per second along bank-to-bank transects through the study area (longitudinal progression rate = 0.37 meters per second) emitting sound and electricity (“stimulus”) or no added stimuli (“control”). Fish movement responses included fish presence in the refuge-zones located at either end of the embayment, fish presence fore of herding boats, and fish presence within 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, and 800 meters of the herding boats, and fish velocity.
Consumer-grade sonar applications for silver carp in overwintering habitats of the Lower Mississippi River, 2023 January 31
공공데이터포털
In January 2023, the USGS demonstrated the use of side-scan sonar and down-imaging sonar to locate and quantify fish including invasive carp. A dike pool in the study area was surveyed (254-meter reach) using a Humminbird Helix sonar system. Sonar surveys included concurrent recordings of side-scan and down-imaging sonar. Proprietary sonar data were converted to PNG image files (i.e., rectified and speed-corrected) using SonarTRX Pro. Fish targets in imagery were measured in total length and enumerated using image analysis software (ImageJ) algorithms. Side-scan and down-imaging datasets were processed multiple times across a range of sensitivity thresholds (i.e., 25–30) to incorporate variation in the sensitivity of fish detection and estimation. The resulting data set includes three CSV files documenting the track locations and beam information needed to calculate the ensonified volume and the fish counts and length of each fish captured in each sonar type.
Grass carp captured in the Sandusky River, OH, USA, during 2020–2023 using electrofishing and combination methods
공공데이터포털
Data were collected during efforts to remove invasive grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) from the Sandusky River, OH, USA during 2020–2023. The data includes the number of grass carp captured, capture method, total vessel hours, removal effort year, removal effort month, number of non-target species captured, and river kilometer (distance from the river mouth measured in 0.5 kilometer units). Data include non-spawning grass carp removal efforts from the lower 24 kilometers of the Sandusky River using electrofishing and combined (i.e., electrofishing around a trammel net) removal methods when vessels were working independently.
Consumer-Grade Side-Scan Sonar Imagery of Invasive Silver Carp in a Missouri River Oxbow Lake, Creve Coeur Lake, 2023 September 20
공공데이터포털
In September 2023, the USGS demonstrated the use of side-scan sonar to image large densities of invasive carp in Creve Coeur Lake, Maryland Heights, Missouri, USA. A 400-meter reach was surveyed using a Humminbird Helix sonar system. Proprietary sonar data were converted to PNG image files (i.e., rectified and speed-corrected) using SonarTRX Pro. The resulting data set includes one CSV file, original side-scan sonar images (PNG files), speed corrected side-scan images (correcting distortions in imagery due to small changes in boat velocity; PNG files), and a KMZ file of original rectified images for a mosaic display in Google Earth Pro.
