HUD-Insured Multifamily Properties
Multifamily Housing receiving insured financing through the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). The FHA insured Multifamily Housing portfolio consists primarily of rental housing properties with five or more dwelling units such as apartments or town houses, but can also be nursing homes, hospitals, elderly housing, mobile home parks, retirement service centers, and occasionally vacant land. Please note that this dataset overlaps the Multifamily Properties Assisted layer. The Multifamily property locations represent the approximate location of the property.

Multifamily Portfolio datasets (section 8 contracts) - The information has been compiled from multiple data sources within FHA or its contractors. HUD oversees more than 22,000 privately owned multifamily properties, and more than 1.4 million assisted housing units. These homes were originally financed with FHA-insured or Direct Loans and many are supported with Section 8 or other rental assistance contracts. Our existing stock of affordable rental housing is a critical resource for seniors and families who otherwise would not have access to safe, decent places to call home.
FHA Single Family REO Properties For Sale

This service provides data on Federal Housing Administration (FHA) single family, Real Estate Owned (REO) properties that are up for sale. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Real Estate Owned (REO) properties are the result of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) paying a claim to a lending institution on a foreclosed property which was financed with an FHA Insured Mortgage, and the lender has transferred ownership of the property of to HUD. Typically, title to the property is not transferred (or the claim paid) until the previous owner is evicted from the property. Normally, after the home is transferred to HUD, the property will go up for auction on the HUD Home store website.

This service provides the locations and pertinent information for HUD Single Family Housing Counseling Agency (HCA) resources. HCA's are trained and approved to provide tools to current and prospective homeowners and renters so that they can make responsible choices to address their housing needs in light of their financial situations. Location data for HUD-related properties and facilities are derived from HUD's enterprise geocoding service.

Processing for much of the Single Family FHA mortgages is centralized into one of four HOCs located in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Denver, and Santa Ana; each supporting specific geographic region. Although most questions are handled by the FHA Resource Center (not the HOC) for immediate acknowledgement and tracking, certain case specific issues will subsequently be referred to the appropriate center.

This feature service denotes the locations of HUD assisted Multi-Family properties that primarily serve elderly residents. In addition, each property illustrated through this service has at least one active Service Coordinator contract or grant, Section 236 loan, Section 8 202 contract, Section 8 Farmers Home Administration (FMHA) 515 contract, Section 8 New Construction contract, Section 202 Project Assistance Contracts (PAC) contract, and Section 202 Project Rental Assistance Contract (PRAC).

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development offers multifamily finance programs for the construction and rehabilitation of affordable rental housing units for low to moderate income families, senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. Our multifamily bond programs issues tax-exempt and taxable revenue mortgage bonds to finance the acquisition, preservation and creation of affordable multifamily rental housing units in priority funding areas. By advocating for increased production of rental housing units, we help create much-needed jobs and leverage opportunities to live, work and prosper for hardworking Maryland families, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities throughout the state.
