NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) - Recalls
Manufacturers who determine that a product or piece of original equipment either has a safety defect or is not in compliance with Federal safety standards are required to notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) within 5 business days. NHTSA requires that manufacturers file a Defect and Noncompliance report as well as quarterly recall status reports, in compliance with Federal Regulation 49 (the National Traffic and Motor Safety Act) Part 573, which identifies the requirements for safety recalls. This information is stored in the NHTSA database. Use this data to search for recall information related to:- Specific NHTSA campaigns - Product types Access to public searches of NHTSA recall databases for tires, vehicles, car seats and equipment.

Complaint information entered into NHTSA-ODI's vehicle owner's complaint database is used with other data sources to identify safety issues that warrant investigation and to determine if a safety-related defect trend exists. Complaint information is also analyzed to monitor existing recalls for proper scope and adequacy.

자동차 제작결함시정(리콜)제도는 자동차가 안전기준에 부적합하거나 안전운행에 지장을 주는 결함이 있는 경우에 자동차 제작, 조립, 수입자가 그 결함 사실을 해당 소유자에게 통보하고 부품의 수리 및 교환 등의 시정 조치를 취함으로써 안전과 관련된 사고와 소비자 피해를 사전에 예방하고 재발을 방지하는 제도입니다. 세계 각국 정부에서는 자동차의 안전도를 확보하기 위하여 자동차 인증제도를 운영하고 있습니다. 인증제도로는 형식인증제도와 자기인증제도가 있으며 양제도의 장단점을 검토하여 개별 국가에 적합한 인증제도를 운영하고 있습니다. 우리나라는 제작자의 자율성을 최대한 보장하기 위하여 자기인증제도를 시행하고 있습니다. 자동차 안전도 확보를 위하여 정부에서는「자기인증적합조사」와 「제작결함조사(안전결함조사)」제도를 운영하고 있습니다. 조사 결과 결함이 있을 경우에는 그 결함을 제작사가 시정조치토록 하여 제작자의 책임과 의무를 강화하였습니다. 이에, 국내에 출시된 승용차에 대한 리콜정보, 리콜에 따른 무상 수리 여부 등을 사전협의(https://car.go.kr/rs/cnter/intrcn.do?tabNum=6)를 통해 OpenAPI를 제공합니다. <사용 유의사항> - 활용자는 푸쉬알림 구현, 출처표시(자동차리콜센터), 리콜정보 상세 내용확인 시 리콜센터로 연결되어 확인되어야 함(각 리콜건의 상세정보 url은 API로 제공) 등 - 활용자는 주기적으로 API 호출 건수, 서비스 사용자 수 등 제공해야함

This area of the website provides information on three of the safety programs established by FMCSA to support this mission. The three programs covered by this area include reviews, roadside inspections of commercial vehicles and drivers, and traffic enforcement stops of CMVs operating in an unsafe manner. Each program is implemented in conjunction with the states and devoted to improving motor carrier safety by reducing the number and severity of crashes involving large trucks and buses.
