This report is a continuation of the 2021National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) Sample Design Report. It further documents the 2021 NSDUH sample experiences, by comparing expected outcomes with what actually occurred, and documenting unexpected issues that came up during the year. The report also summarizes the information about the sample design that is more thoroughly detailed in the previous report.Chapter 1 introduces the report and summarizes the impact of the coronavirus 2019 pandemic on the sample design and data collection. Chapter 2 revisits the 2021 sample design. Chapters 3, 4, and 5 document the sample experiences at the third, fourth, and fifth stages of sample selection, respectively. However, later analyses have shown that this assumption should not be made. 2014 NSDUH MRB Sample Design Report

This detailed manual was used as a training guide for the Field Interviewers (FIs) who conducted the in-person 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). It covers the information presented at the intensive training for new FIs. Although it is written for NSDUH FIs, researchers may find it helpful for learning about data collection challenges that could affect data quality. It also may be helpful for those designing their own field operations.The manual includes:An introduction to the survey;A guide to what is expected of FIs;Copies of materials that were mailed or given to respondents;FI instructions for locating sample dwelling units, contacting residents, obtaining participation, conducting the screening and interview, documenting their experiences; andQuality control and administrative procedures for FIs.
