A method and system for data protection for applications that includes registering applications with a storage cleaning mechanism so that the registered applications can receive notification of impending storage cleaning operations. Upon receiving notification of an impending cleaning operation, the registered applications can release or unreference storage so it can be cleaned of data.

An extended content storage system, apparatus, and method are disclosed. The system includes a client and server capable of being communicatively coupled to a communications medium, and a module to monitor the type of content type and its transmission rate as it is stored in a limited local memory maintained by the client. The method includes monitoring the local content storage memory as it is used to acquire the content, and establishing a connection between the client and server to enable sending a selected portion of the acquired content to the server. The method enables subsequent portions of the content to be acquired without exceeding the local memory storage limit, and review of the acquired content during acquisition of subsequent portions.

A method to write information to, or retrieve information from, an information storage medium disposed within a portable data storage cartridge moveably disposed in a data storage and retrieval system, wherein the data storage and retrieval system further comprises a data storage device. The portable data storage cartridge comprises a moveable curved door slidingly disposed within the enclosure, and a tape reel rotatably disposed within the enclosure, wherein the moveable curved door and the tape reel are non-concentric. The method retrieves the portable data storage cartridge from a storage slot, transports that portable data storage cartridge to a data storage device, disposes the portable data storage cartridge in the data storage device. The method further moves the moveable curved door from said a position to a second position, and reads information from and/or writes information to, the information storage medium.

A storage device for a plurality of storage members in the form of sleeves each adapted to accommodate at least one compact disc, comprises a base member formed from synthetic plastics material and incorporating integral locating members formed by cutting and deforming a portion of the base member. The locating members are adapted for engagement with complementary apertures formed in each of the sleeves and are resiliently deformable whereby they may be deformed to pass through the apertures and then resiliently expand such that portions thereof extend beyond the apertures to retain the storage members in position on the base member.

A method of storing and accessing data comprising transmitting data from a memory system (24), receiving the data with a read/write holographic drive engine (26), writing the data to a holographic recording medium with the read/write holographic drive engine (26) and transferring the holographic recording medium to a non-light-tight storage device (32) after the data has been written on the holographic recording medium. A system for carrying out this method is also disclosed.

A method for executing secure data transfer between a communication device and an application server in a wireless network, in which a request requiring a secure transaction of data is sent from either the communication device or the server. An agreement proposal for the secure transaction is sent to the communication device, and if the agreement proposal is considered acceptable, the agreement proposal is sent to a security adapter. Details of the transaction are entered into a message and sent to a smart card in order to activate a signing application in the smart card. The details of the transaction are displayed on the communication device, and if the transaction is accepted, the signing application signs the data and sends it to the security adapter via messages, the signature is verified, and the data is sent to the server.

The invention relates to a data processing device with a functionally programmable logic circuit and a programming interface. An authorization control unit is provided, which protects the programming interface against an unauthorized access. This enables the functions of a semiconductor module to be changed in a customer-specific manner while preventing unauthorized entities from subsequently changing the functionality.

The device has a measuring tape (4) attached by clamping to a concave surface (3) of a carrier body (1). The extent of the concave surface is defined by detent surfaces (6,7) on each end of the measuring tape.
