This dataset denotes the general position of Public Housing Developments by providing the location of the building with the largest number of units in a Development’s community. HUD furnishes technical and professional assistance in planning, developing and managing these developments. Public Housing Developments are depicted as a distinct address chosen to represent the general location of an entire Public Housing Development, which may be comprised of several buildings scattered across a community. The building with the largest number of units is selected to represent the location of the development.

This dataset denotes Public Housing Authority (PHA) office locations, contact information, and program availability. Public Housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to high-rise apartments for elderly families. There are approximately 1.2 million households living in public housing units, managed by over 3,300 housing agencies (HAs). HUD administers Federal aid to local housing agencies (HAs) that manage the housing for low-income residents at rents they can afford. HUD furnishes technical and professional assistance in planning, developing and managing these developments.

This service denotes estimated PHA service area boundaries in an effort to provide critical data to those responsible (HUD staff, researchers, and external partners) for the evaluation and monitoring of HUD’s rental assistance programs. This is an experimental dataset that is designed to aid researchers in studying the HUD-funded Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs. The methodology and the service areas themselves have not been validated by HUD’s Office of Public and Indian Housing (PIH) or the Public Housing Agencies. PD&R welcomes engagement from internal and external stakeholders on the continued refinement and development of this dataset.

The dataset contains current data on low rent and Section 8 units in PHA's administered by HUD. The Section 8 Rental Voucher Program increases affordable housing choices for very low-income households by allowing families to choose privately owned rental housing. Through the Section 8 Rental Voucher Program, the administering housing authority issues a voucher to an income-qualified household, which then finds a unit to rent. If the unit meets the Section 8 quality standards, the PHA then pays the landlord the amount equal to the difference between 30 percent of the tenant's adjusted income (or 10 percent of the gross income or the portion of welfare assistance designated for housing) and the PHA-determined payment standard for the area. The rent must be reasonable compared with similar unassisted units.

HUD’s Multifamily Housing property portfolio consist primarily of rental housing properties with five or more dwelling units such as apartments or town houses, but can also include nursing homes, hospitals, elderly housing, mobile home parks, retirement service centers, and occasionally vacant land. HUD provides subsidies and grants to property owners and developers in an effort to promote the development and preservation of affordable rental units for low-income populations, and those with special needs such as the elderly, and disabled. The portfolio can be broken down into two basic categories: insured, and assisted. The three largest assistance programs for Multifamily Housing are Section 8 Project Based Assistance, Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly, and Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities. The Multifamily property locations represent the approximate location of the property. The locations of individual buildings associated with each property are not depicted here.

This service provides location and program data for HUD-FHA Revitalization Areas. Revitalization Areas are HUD-designated geographic areas authorized by Congress under provisions of the National Housing Act intended to promote "revitalization, through expanded homeownership opportunities.” HUD-owned single-family properties located in a Revitalization Areas are eligible for discounted sale through special programs, including the Asset Control Areas (ACA) Program, and the Good Neighbor Next Door (GNND) Program. Revitalization Areas are determined by comparing a block group's median household income and home ownership rate to the respective rates of the surrounding area. If the block group is located in a CBSA Metropolitan area, then the metro area is used. However, if the block group is located in a Non-Metro area, then the state rate is used.

This service provides spatial data and information for Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) recipients aggregated to 2020 U.S. Census Tract geography. The HCV Program assists very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled in obtaining decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) receive federal funds from HUD to administer the voucher program, and housing subsidies are paid to the landlord directly by the PHA on behalf of the participating family. The voucher recipient remains responsible for paying any difference that exists between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program. Voucher recipients are responsible for finding a suitable housing unit where the owner agrees to rent under the program.
