DDOT is committed to making District streets safer for all roadway users while providing multimodal mobility and access for residents, visitors, and commercial users. A combination of traffic control devices and traffic calming measures can help meet both goals. DDOT has a full portfolio of proactive, data-based safety efforts, which can be reviewed at https://visionzero.dc.gov/pages/engineering. In addition, our Traffic Safety Input (TSI) program provides a mechanism for DDOT to hear from residents on roadway segments and intersections where users have safety concerns.

DPW is charged with ensuring the cleanliness of the District’s residential neighborhoods, high-visibility commercial areas, and industrial zones. DPW also ensures the availability of parking for all by encouraging compliance with parking regulations. Users can explore and download data about the agency’s top ten service requests. The app includes summary statistics by service request type, a date range search, a city heat map of requests and a SLA Report by service request. View how the agency is responding to 311 service requests that support their mission.

Public Safety Survey from 2017

To ensure residents across the District were provided an opportunity to participate in the discussion around public safety, the qualities of a permanent chief of police, and public safety priorities for the District, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice conducted a survey. Residents could take the survey online or complete it in person at recreation centers, senior centers, and libraries. The survey was publicized in Mayor Bowser’s weekly newsletter, on neighborhood list-servs, and in a link on all District government emails. The survey was open to the public between January 26th and February 13th 2017. We collected over 7000 responses, of which we identified 3990 as valid responses from District residents.
