San Francisco Plant Finder Data
This is the plant list used by the SF Plant Finder (http://sfplantfinder.org). The San Francisco Plant Finder is a resource for gardeners, designers, ecologists and anyone who is interested in greening neighborhoods, enhancing our urban ecology and surviving the drought. The Plant Finder recommends appropriate habitat-building plants for sidewalks, gardens and roofs that are adapted to San Francisco's unique environment and climate. The plants in the database include California natives and Mediterranean climate exotics. A large subset of the California natives are actually local San Francisco natives. We strongly recommend local natives since they provide the best habitat for local pollinators and other wildlife with whom they have co-evolved. San Francisco natives are the most closely adapted to the climate and environment of the San Francisco peninsula of course, and so they are the best in terms of water and soil conservation, ecosystem health, and overall sustainability. The purpose of the San Francisco Municipal Greenhouse Gas Inventory is to measure and track departmental greenhouse gas emissions as part of the City's climate action strategy. Per Environment Code Chapter 9, this data is collected and calculated by the Department of the Environment. Note: Data as of 10/20/18. Vegetation - San Felipe Valley Wildlife Area [ds172]

This Vegetation Map of the San Felipe Valley Wildlife Area in San Diego County, California is based on vegetation samples collected in the field in 2002 and 2005 and on photo interpretation of a 2000 Color Infrared (CIR) Image. The map legend is based on classification of the plots and follows the hierarchical National Vegetation Classification System (USGS-NPS 2005) and Manual of California (Sawyer and Keeler-Wolf 1995). Types are cross-walked to California Wildlife Habitat Relationships (CWHR) and Holland types. No report was produced; this metadata serves to document the entire project. WHAT EACH RECORD REPRESENTS: Each record represents the attributes of the individual polygon in the map layer, including vegetation type, structural information, and disturbance information. The map represents vegetation as it existing prior to the 2002 Pines Fire. Polygons are attributed to the lowest level of the classification hierarchy allowed by the image resolution and comfort level of the photo interpreter. Thus, individual polygons are mapped to the Formation, Alliance or Association level. Several "mapping units" not in the vegetation classification were also used in the mapping classification (=map legend). The hierarchical classification and crosswalk allow mapping at coarser levels or in different systems (e.g., CWHR). If mapping at the Formation level (the "1000s" in the spreadsheet), please consider including the California juniper types 2106, 2171, 2172 and 2173 in the 4000s (Evergreen Shrubland). This juniper is considered a tree in the national classification, but is more shrub-like and its desert affinities make California juniper types fit more logically into the Evergreen Shrubland Formation.

Current format is ArcGIS file geodatabase but older formats may exist as shapefiles. A final vegetation map for Castillo de San Marcos National Monument was created to represent the vegetation occurring within the park during 2012. This product is the final of four steps necessary to produce an accurate vegetation map based upon aerial photographs. This includes the determination of the community element global (CEGL) codes (2008) and acquisition of aerial imagery (2012), using the aerial imagery, with five ground truthing points (2014), to create a draft vegetation map, performing an accuracy assessment (2015), and then using all the available information to create a final vegetation map (2018).

To produce the digital map, a combination of 1:12,000-scale ortho imagery acquired in 2003, 2004, and 2005 and all of the GPS-referenced ground data were used to interpret the complex patterns of vegetation and land-use. All imagery was acquired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Farm Service Agency’s Aerial Photography Field Office and the National Agriculture Imagery Program. In the end, 32 map units (13 vegetated and 19 land-use) were developed and directly cross-walked or matched to corresponding plant associations and land-use classes. All of the interpreted and remotely sensed data were converted to Geographic Information System (GIS) databases using ArcGIS© software. Draft maps were printed, field tested, reviewed, and revised. One hundred-twenty four accuracy assessment (AA) data points were collected in 2006 and used to determine the map’s accuracy. After final revisions, the accuracy assessment revealed an overall thematic accuracy of 89%. Project Size = 6,784 acres San Antonio Missions National Historical Park = 844 acres Map Classes = 32 13 Vegetated 19 Non-vegetated Minimum Mapping Unit = ½ hectare is the program standard but this was modified at SAAN to ¼ acre. This map service contains the Project Points layer, indicating the general location and type of projects conducted under the San Francisco Bay Water Quality Improvement Fund (SFBWQIF). SFBWQIF is a competitive grant program that is helping implement TMDLs to improve water quality, protect wetlands, and advance green development planning throughout the Bay Area. This service is incorporated in the San Francisco Bay Water Quality Improvement Fund Story Map, an interactive series of maps and QlikSense graphics highlighting the competitive grant program which supports projects to protect and restore San Francisco Bay. Geospatial data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of San Juan Island National Historical Park

The files linked to this reference are the geospatial data created as part of the completion of the baseline vegetation inventory project for the NPS park unit. Current format is ArcGIS file geodatabase but older formats may exist as shapefiles. Prior to conducting field visits, existing vegetation maps, soils maps, wetland locations, and 2007 NAIP 6-inch color orthophotos, provided by the NPS, were used to delineate preliminary polygons using ArcGIS™ 9.3.1. Each polygon was assigned a "GIS_Poly" code. Some areas were difficult to map without field verification. A total of 544 polygons were mapped in the park. Vegetation classified at the Alliance-level was mapped correctly with an overall accuracy of 82.0 ± 5.2% (90% confidence intervals) and increases at higher NVC levels to 86.8%± 4.6% at the Division-level. Twenty-three of 32 Alliances in the AA (72%) meet the user‘s accuracy requirement of 80% established by the National Park Service Vegetation Inventory Program.
