The Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) and other data were collected in NW Atlantic (limit-40 W) as part of Ocean Margins Program. Data was collected from Ship CAPE HATTERAS. The data was collected over a period spanning from July 14-18, 1993. Two files of CTD data was submitted by Nelson D. Sherry, Biology Department, University of Oregon, Eugene, OR via FTP.

These entries contain chlorophyll and phaeophytin data collected in June 1986 in the North West Atlantic aboard the CAPE HATTERAS on the Hyalinus cruise. The data were submitted by Byron K. Sherman of the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography.

The Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) and other data were collected over two years period spanning from January 14, 1993 to December 20, 1994 from ships R/V CAPE HATTERAS and WEATHERBIRD II cruises #735-786. Data from 34 CTD casts for 1993 and 38 casts for 1994 from Station-S was collected by Bermuda Biological Station for Research, Inc., Ferry Reach, Bermuda. Data was received via George Heimerdinger from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA.

Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard Bathythermograph (XBT) (C116) format. The C116/C118 format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data record was comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT Data File, in which temperature values were recorded at uniform 5 m intervals, the XBT data files contained temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m. Prior to July 1994, XBT data were routinely processed to one of these standard types. XBT data are now processed and loaded directly in to the NODC Ocean Profile Data Base (OPDB). Historic data from these two data types were loaded into the OPDB.

Physical and chemical data were collected using bottle casts in the Sargasso sea from CAPE HENLOPEN, CAPE HATTERAS, and WEATHERBIRD from 21 January 1988 to 10 December 1988. Data were submitted by the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science with support from the Bermuda Atlantic time Series (BATS) and Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) projects.

Chemical, physical and profile oceanographic data were collected aboard the CAPE HATTERAS in the Gulf of Mexico from 2010-09-04 to 2010-09-15 in response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill event on April 20, 2010, by the Subsurface Monitoring Unit (SMU), which consisted of multiple government and corporate agencies. These data include CDOM fluorescence, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, fluorescence, hydrostatic pressure, salinity, sound velocity, temperature and water density. The instruments used to collect these data included CTD, fluorometer and oxygen meter along with other physical sampling devices. More specific information about each dataset is located in their individual metadata records. The CTD data underwent preliminary quality assurance and control procedures at the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC). Cruise level information consisting of data management documents, cruise reports and plans, videos and pictures, and other miscellaneous documentation were gathered by the data managers.

The water depth, temperature and other nutrient bottle data were collected in NW Atlantic (limit-40 W) from ship ATLANTIS II cruise 107 Leg 10 between August 6, 1980 and September 4, 1980. The originator's depth, pressure, temperature, salinity, oxygen, silicate, phosphate, nitrite and nitrate data from 102 stations were collected by Daniel Georgi of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA. Data was compiled into files by G. Heimerdinger before submitting to NODC via internet.

The Ocean Station Data; and Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) Bottle data from 25 casts were collected using ship R/V Weatherbird II during cruises # 791-813. The data was collected from January 1, 1995 to December 31, 1995 in Bremuda, NW Atlantic (limit-40 W) by Bermuda Biological Station for Research, Inc. and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA. The Station S data was received by NODC via internet from George Heimerdinger.
