These data describe the distribution and abundance of Hydropsyche, a widespread and diverse genus of net-spinning caddisflies, in the Colorado River Basin. Abundance data, measured as catch rates, were collected by citizen scientists using light traps. We subsampled Hydropsyche spp. from light trap samples collected throughout the Colorado River Basin and measured the lengths and widths of mesothoracic tibia and first tarsal segments. Samples and measurements were processed at Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center in Flagstaff, AZ.

These data were compiled to understand the effects of riparian vegetation health on local abundance and species diversity of land birds. The primary objective of our study was to to determine the effects of riparian restoration on birds in the Colorado River delta. These tabular data represent vegetation indices and evapotranspiration (ET) data at varying spatial scales that correspond to avian use circles of 100 to 2000 meters. Three vegetation reflectance indices (VIs): NDVI, EVI, and EVI2 were obtained from Landsat imagery with a biweekly temporal frequency, and covering the entire period of bird surveys (2002-2020). The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) and two-band EVI, named EVI2, were produced as tabular data sets. ET was then produced using EVI and EVI2. Also, ET was calculated from EVI2 using an empirical equation (Nagler et al., 2013). Data acquisition and processing were performed at the University of Arizona VIP lab (vip.arizona.edu) using their large Linux cluster of computing and storage resources.

Invertebrate, fish, and habitat data were collected as part of a cooperative project that began in 2002 between the U.S. Geological Survey, Colorado Springs Utilities, and Colorado Springs Engineering. Other entities have contributed to the project through the years including Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Habitat samples were collected and analyzed at 27 sites – 25 in the Fountain Creek Basin as well as two sites on the Arkansas River, El Paso and Pueblo Counties, Colorado. The number of sites sampled each year as well as the number of annual visits during which data were collected and sampling methods used during each visit vary. The habitat data were collected between 2002 and 2024 and is intended to be updated annually as new data are collected and available. Users of these data are advised to read all metadata and associated documentation thoroughly to understand appropriate use and data limitations.
