This dataset contains no digital data from the 1971 Boston Harbor current surveys. Documentation forms and other metadata have been scanned and added to this accession. Current and velocity data collected in Boston Harbor were collected in support of the Boston Harbor Current Surveys, OPR-501-FE-72 and OPR-501-FE-71. Data were collected from NOAA Ship Ferrel and survey buoys from 1971-05-10 to 1971-11-26. Based on the documentation included in this accession, the survey observation data was on analog data sheets that were never transferred to NODC.

Current and velocity data were collected in Boston Harbor and the North Atlantic in support of the Boston Harbor Current Survey, OPR-501-FE-71 and the South Coastal Plains Expedition, OPR-500-FE-73. Data were collected from NOAA Ship Ferrel and survey buoys from 1971-05-10 to 1973-07-07. This archival package contains only documentation forms for these data, not the data files themselves.

This data set contains current speed and direction from short term moorings in the Ross Sea with current meter placed at 25 m. One hour averages reported.

Current and other data from FIXED PLATFORM from 01 November 1962 to 01 July 1971. Data were collected by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in support of the Buoy Project. Current parameters include East/West velocity component (u), North/South velocity component (v), current direction, and current speed. Digital data are not available at this time. Current and hydrophysical data were collected from Geological Survey current meters deployed in New England coastal waters (Gulf of Maine, Cape Cod Bay, Massachusetts Bay, Boston Harbor, Buzzards Bay, N.E. Continental Shelf) Data were collected from 08 May 1975 to 11 February 1992. Current meter data include U and V velocities in cm/s, rotor speeds in cm/s, current directions in degrees, and water temperatures.

These data were collected under a cooperative agreement with the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Coastal and Marine Geology Program, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center (WHCMSC). Initiated in 2003, the primary objective of this program is to develop regional geologic framework information for the management of coastal and marine resources. Accurate data and maps of sea-floor geology are important first steps toward protecting fish habitat, delineating marine resources, and assessing environmental changes due to natural or human impacts. The project is focused on the inshore waters of coastal Massachusetts, primarily in water depths of 3-30 meters deep. Data collected for the mapping cooperative have been released in a series of USGS Open-File Reports (http://woodshole.er.usgs.gov/project-pages/coastal_mass/html/current_map.html). The data collected in the study area located in Northern Cape Cod Bay Massachusetts includes high-resolution geophysics (bathymetry, backscatter intensity, and seismic reflection), and ground validation (sediment samples, video tracklines, and bottom photographs). The data were collected during five separate surveys conducted between 2006 and 2008 and cover 480 square kilometers of the inner continental shelf.
