Port Statistical Areas
공공데이터포털
The Port Statistical Areas dataset was updated on June 05, 2025 from the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). USACE works with port authorities from across the United States to develop the statistical port boundaries through an iterative and collaborative process. Port boundary information is prepared by USACE to increase transparency on public waterborne commerce statistic reporting, as well as to modernize how the data type is stored, analyzed, and reported. A Port Statistical Area (PSA) is a region with formally justified shared economic interests and collective reliance on infrastructure related to waterborne movements of commodities that is formally recognized by legislative enactments of state, county, or city governments. PSAs generally contain groups of county legislation for the sole purpose of statistical reporting. Through GIS mapping, legislative boundaries, and stakeholder collaboration, PSAs often serve as the primary unit for aggregating and reporting commerce statistics for broader geographical areas. Per Engineering Regulation 1130-2-520, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Navigation Data Center is responsible to collect, compile, publish, and disseminate waterborne commerce statistics. This task has subsequently been charged to the Waterborne Commerce Statistics Center to perform. Performance of this work is in accordance with the Rivers and Harbors Appropriation Act of 1922. Included in this work is the definition of a port area. A port area is defined in Engineering Pamphlet 1130-2-520 as: (1) Port limits defined by legislative enactments of state, county, or city governments. (2) The corporate limits of a municipality. The USACE enterprise-wide port and port statistical area feature classes per EP 1130-2-520 are organized in SDSFIE 4.0.2 format. Navigation Facilities
공공데이터포털
The Navigation Facilities dataset is periodically updated by the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The data includes location (latitude, longitude, waterway, mile, and bank); operations (name, owner, operator, purpose, handling equipment, rates, and details of open-and-covered storage facilities); and type of construction (length of berthing space for vessels and/or barges, depth, deck elevation, and details of rail-and-highway access). Additional attributes included in the data are the unique navigation-unit identifier, official name, facility type, United Nations Location Code, a location description, stress address, city, state, zip code, county, congressional district, TOWS link location identifiers, port name, waterway name, mile, bank, and service-initiated dates. A data dictionary, or other source of attribute information, is accessible at https://doi.org/10.21949/1529017
The Principal Ports dataset is periodically updated by the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The ports are defined by port limits or Corps projects. The determination for the published Principal Ports is based upon the total tonnage for the port for the particular year, therefore the top 150 list can vary from year to year. The Principal Port file contains USACE port codes, geographic locations, names, and commodity tonnage summaries (total tons, domestic, foreign, imports and exports) for Principal USACE Ports. Data as of CY 2022.
The Docks dataset is periodically updated by the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The Dock file provides the complete dock list of all facility types. Additional attributes include a location description, street address, city, state, zip code, county, congressional district, owners, operators, highway-and-railway connections, commodities, type of construction, cargo-handling equipment, water depth alongside the facility, berthing space, and deck height.
Navigable Waterway Network Lines
공공데이터포털
The Navigable Waterway Network Lines dataset is periodically updated by the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The National Waterway Network (Lines) is a comprehensive network database of the Nation's navigable waterways. The dataset covers the 48 contiguous states plus the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and water links between. It consists of a line feature class of the National Waterway Network (NWN), which is based on a route feature class for the NWN update regions (â1â through â7â, as well as the open ocean region â0â) and route event table with linear referencing system measures for NWN links. This dataset is a feature class with associated measures (in miles) that are used for finding distances, locating features, and displaying route event layers. It was exported from this route event layer. The nominal scale of the dataset varies with the source material. The majority of the information is at 1:100,000 with larger scales used in harbor/bay/port areas and smaller scales used in open waters. These data could be used for analytical studies of waterway performance, for compiling commodity flow statistics, and for mapping purposes.
The Link Tonnages dataset was sourced on December 31, 2022 and was updated on November 14, 2024 by the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The tonnage summarized for each link by commodity and direction (upbound and down bound). The commodities include Coal, Petroleum Products, Chemicals, Crude Materials, Manufactured Goods, Farm Products, Machinery, Waste, and Unknown.
Navigable Waterway Network Nodes
공공데이터포털
The Navigable Waterway Network Nodes dataset is periodically updated by the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The National Waterway Network (Nodes) is a comprehensive network database of the nation's navigable waterways. The dataset covers the lower 48 states as well as the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and water links between. The nominal scale of the dataset varies with the source material. Most of the information is at 1:100,000 with larger scales used in harbor/bay/port areas and smaller scales used in open waters. These data could be used for analytical studies of waterway performance, for compiling commodity flow statistics, and for mapping purposes.
Intermodal Freight Facilities Pipeline Terminals
공공데이터포털
The Intermodal Freight Facilities - Pipeline Terminals dataset was compiled on February 02, 2021 and was updated on April 21, 2021 from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). Pipeline terminals interface between pipeline mode and other transportation modes. They have the ability to receive or deliver freight commodities via pipeline and truck/rail/water. The data consists of location information, truck/rail/water mode connections, storage capacity, and a list of commodities handled at the terminal. Geographical coverage includes the United States and U.S. territories. This dataset is one of several layers in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) Intermodal Freight Facility Database.
