Indiana Amphibian Pathogen Surveillance data release
Data in this dataset were collected as a part of a surveillance project for reintroduction of a state endangered species in Indiana. This data was collected in the field by state biologists and sent to the USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) for testing of four amphibian pathogens, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd), Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bs), Ranavirus, and perkinsea. The dataset includes both the field records of the individual amphibians tested and the results for individuals for all four pathogens.

This dataset provides the results of a national survey of the United States for the salamander chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal) and the amphibian chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative from May 2014 to August 2017. Sites were sampled by capturing amphibians by hand or by traps or nets that were then swabbed individually using methods that prevent sample contamination. All swabs were then analyzed using a real-time TaqMan PCR for detection of B. salamandrivorans and Bd on the extracted DNA. The data consist of locality information and data on the individual sampled, as well as the result of the test for B. salamandrivorans and Bd. No cases of B. salamandrivorans were detected in this study.

Results of a literature search performed December 1, 2020. The tables in this document summarize the publications fitting in this search criteria and are split into the publications that update the list of international species that could carry Bsal (Appendix 1 Table S1). Number of individual live amphibians imported in categories of urodelan (salamander, newt, and related taxa) species restricted under the interim regulations and not listed, species not listed on the regulations that have had Bsal detected, notably Bombina spp., anuran species in the genus Rana, and Xenopus (including African clawed frogs) as a comparison of species not thought to be susceptible to Bsal, but commonly imported (Appendix 3 Table S1). Data and relative risk scores per county used for the risk analysis of B. salamandrivorans invasion, consequences, and surveillance for U.S. salamanders. All variables were scaled from 1, lowest relative risk, to 4, highest relative risk. Import and introduction risk scores were calculated from the average live imports per year for the pre-action risk period (2010-2015) and post-action risk period (2016-2019) (Appendix S3 Table S2).

Presence and prevalence of pathogens among amphibians of Catoctin Mountain Park, 2014

Data described herein was collected by USGS personnel and the project funded by USGS and the National Park Service (Catoctin Mountain Park) through a FY14 NRPP project involving both agencies and developed to detect the presence and prevalence of ranavirus and chytrid pathogens among amphibians of Catoctin Mountain Park (CATO). Supplemental molecular analyses were performed on behalf of LSC by the molecular biology laboratory at Hagerstown Community College whereby students performed the molecular diagnostic testing and provided the raw data to LSC for analysis. There is no data sharing agreement specifying ownership, but the data was presented to the NPS CATO staff to help guide their management decision-making related to amphibians and disease susceptibility. This body of data is stored in spreadsheet format.
